Automotive Rubber Mats

2004-12-16
HISTORICAL
J80_200412
This SAE Recommended Practice covers the requirements for rubber floor mats made from five types of rubber compounds as required by the physical property requirements of the application. The SAE Committee on Automotive Rubber Specifications has concluded that SAE J80 duplicates the information in ASTM D 925 and SAE J200/ASTM D 2000. Attempts to find any company using the specification have not been successful. In light of this fact SAE J80 will be cancelled in 2005.

Thermoplastic Elastomer Classification System

2003-09-15
HISTORICAL
J3000_200309
This classification system tabulates the properties of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) that are intended for, but not limited to, use in automotive applications. This classification system is based on the premise that the properties of TPEs can be arranged into characteristic material designations. These designations are determined by type, based on resistance to heat aging; and class, based on resistance to volume change resulting from oil immersion. Basic levels are thus established which, together with values describing additional requirements, permit complete description of the properties of all TPEs. In all cases where provisions of this classification system would conflict with those of the detailed specifications for a particular product, the latter shall take precedence. This classification is based on SI units.

Standard Reference Elastomers (SREs) for Characterizing the Effect of Liquids on Vulcanized Rubbers

2023-05-10
CURRENT
J2643_202305
This SAE Standard specifies requirements for vulcanized rubbers in sheet form for use as standards in characterizing the effect of test liquids and service fluids. The appendices contain the standard reference elastomer formulas. The property changes of the SRE in contact with the indicated fluid under specified test conditions are the responsibility of the user. See 7.3 and Table 1. This standard is not designed to provide formulations of elastomeric product compositions for actual service.

Classification System for Thermoplastic Elastomers

2005-10-10
HISTORICAL
J2558_200510
This SAE Standard provides a system for specifying significant material properties of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) that are intended for, but not limited to, use in automotive applications. NOTE 1—For the purposes of this document a TPE is defined as a polymeric material that, without further chemical modifications, is capable of recovering from deformations quickly and forcibly and is also capable of being repeatedly softened by heating and hardened by cooling within a temperature range characteristic of the material. NOTE 2—When the TPE product is to be used for purposes where the requirements are too specific to be completely prescribed by this classification system, it is necessary for the purchaser to consult the supplier in advance to establish the appropriate properties, test methods, and specification test limits.
