A Novel Integrated Chassis Controller Design Combining Active Suspension and 4WS

In this paper, we proposed a novel integrated vehicle chassis control configuration, which is based on the combination of vehicle vertical and lateral motion controls. Focusing on the improvement of vehicle handling and riding performance, particularly the active safety under critical driving condition, the purpose of Active Suspension (AS) in the integrated system is to achieve ride comfort quality and to provide more tyre cornering ability near the cornering force saturation regions, while the effect of Four Wheel Steering (4WS) is expected to eliminate the body side slip angle and to achieve an ideal yaw rate model following.

An Optimal Preview ANN Driver Model Based on Error Elimination Algorithm

For the purposes of on-line control, e.g., in an automatic driving system, or of closed-loop directional control simulation, an optimal preview artificial neural network (ANN) driver model based on error elimination algorithm(EEA) is built. Then the optimal preview times are discussed in high frequency range in this system. The simulation results of optimal preview ANN driver model and Error Elimination Algorithm driver model are compared under the condition of different vehicle speeds and paths, which shows that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable enough, particularly for driver-vehicle closed-loop system.

Model Analysis of a Diesel Engine Cylinder Block using HEXA8 Finite Elements - Analysis and Experiment

Analytical and experimental investigations of a diesel engine cylinder block are performed. An attempt is made to reduce modeling and analysis costs in the design process of an engine. Traditionally, the engine has been modeled using either 8-node or 20-node solid elements for stress and thermal analyses and modeled using 4-node plate and shell elements for the dynamic analysis. In this paper, a simpler finite element modeling technique using only 8 node solid elements for both dynamic and static analyses is presented. Based on this integrated modeling technique of finite elements, eigenvalues are calculated and compared with the experimental data obtained from modal testing of an actual engine cylinder block.

Study of Load Distribution for a Semi - Tracked Air - Cushion Vehicle

A new design method is proposed for a semi-tracked air-cushion vehicle for soft terrain by using a flexible bind, which offers more flexibility in designing. This paper describes the design principle focusing on optimizing the total power consumption of the vehicle. The relationships of load distribution and power consumption are analyzed. The prototype experiments showed that the proposed design can meet the demand of tractive and transport efficiency with its optimal state of using minimum total power consumption and meanwhile maintaining ride comfort.

Development of Portable Self Contained Phase Shifting Digital Shearography for Composite Material Testing

The use of composite materials in the automotive industry has become increasingly widespread. With this increase in use, techniques for non-destructive testing (NDT) have become more and more important. Various optical NDT inspective methods such as holography, moiré techniques, and shearography have been used for material testing. Among these methods, shearography appears to be most practical. Shearography has a simple optical setup due to its “self-referencing” system, and it is relatively insensitive against rigid-body motions. Measurements of displacement derivatives, and thus strain directly, rather than the displacement itself is achieved through this method. Therefore shearography detects defects in objects by correlating anomalies of strain which are usually easier than correlating the anomalies of the displacement itself, as in holography. To date shearography has shown potential as a NDT tool for identifying defects in small structures.

CFD Modeling of Reacting Diesel Sprays with Primary Reference Fuel

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling has many potentials for the design and calibration of modern and future engine concepts, including facilitating the exploration of operation conditions and casting light on the involved physical and chemical phenomena. As more attention is paid to the matching of different fuel types and combustion strategies, the use of detailed chemistry in characterizing auto-ignition, flame stabilization processes and the formation of pollutant emissions is becoming critical, yet computationally intensive. Therefore, there is much interest in using tabulated approaches to account for detailed chemistry with an affordable computational cost. In the present work, the tabulated flamelet progress variable approach (TFPV), based on flamelet assumptions, was investigated and validated by simulating constant-volume Diesel combustion with primary reference fuels - binary mixtures of n-heptane and iso-octane.
