This paper explores the impact of 42V PowerNet automotive electrical systems on fuses. As the need for higher levels of efficiency and more power consuming electronics increases, the need for a higher voltage system also increases. From the information presented in this paper, a procedure has been developed for the proper selection of automotive fuses in a 42V automotive environment.

This paper examines the obstacles faced by blade fuses with a single piece, zinc construction; it also introduces a complete line of circuit protection solutions designed for the upcoming 42V PowerNet. These new fuses employ multi- material construction, fiberglass reinforced housings and safety features to prevent interchange of high and low voltage fuses.
