Comparison of GATS Messages to SAE ATIS Standards

2019-06-11
CURRENT
J2539_201906
This SAE Information Report provides a comparative summary between the various messages found in the SAE ATIS standards work (notably SAE J2313, J2353, J2354, J2369 and J2374) and that found in the GATS standard (Global Automotive Telematics Standard). GATS is a message set meant to be deployed on mobile phone systems based on the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) phone system which is being deployed in European markets and which the SAE may need to harmonize with as part of the World Standards activities of TC204. This document provides an overview of the various types of supported messages and how they compare with US terms and messages. Some selected features of the GATS work are recommended for assimilation into the next revision of ATIS standards. No attempt at determining a U.S. policy in this regard is provided. This document seeks to provide the reader familiar with SAE ATIS with a high level overview of technical knowledge of the GATS approach in similar areas.

Standard Rainflow File Format

2018-08-24
CURRENT
J2623_201808
This SAE Standard provides a definition of a rainflow file format. This type of simple text file would contain all relevant information about the rainflow cycle content of a time history. Included information are Comments, Signal Range, Signal Mean, Number of Cycles, Signal Maximum, Signal Minimum. Rainflow cycle counting has become the most accepted procedure for identifying material fatigue relevant cycles in complex variable amplitude load time histories. The cycle counting methods account for the effects of material plasticity and material memory of prior deformation, and the resulting compressed history information is used by durability analysts to estimate the effects of a given service or test history.

Definition of Road Vehicle Hands-Free Operation of a Person-to-Person Wireless Communication System or Device

2022-06-13
WIP
J2972
This Information Report contains a definition of road vehicle hands-free operation. This definition applies to driver inputs to a wireless communications device used for person-to-person wireless communications while driving. This report applies to both original equipment manufacturers’ and aftermarket devices. The definition does not apply to outputs, e.g., visual or haptic feedback, from a communication system or device, regardless of the modality of human-machine interface. It also does not apply to parallel or redundant manual control operating modes.

Recommended Guidelines for Load/Deformation Testing of Elastomeric Components

2017-01-05
CURRENT
J1636_201701
The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to review factors that influence the behavior of elastomeric components under conditions of loading or deforming at a constant rate and to provide guidance concerning test procedures used to define or specify the load/deformation characteristics of elastomeric components. This characteristic is referred to as Static Stiffness. This is also referred to as a "Static Deflection Test."

Enhanced E/E Diagnostic Test Modes

2008-10-02
CURRENT
J2190_200810
This SAE Recommended Practice describes the implementation of Enhanced Diagnostic Test Modes, which are intended to supplement the legislated Diagnostic Test Modes defined in SAE J1979. Modes are defined for access to emission related test data beyond what is included in SAE J1979, and for non-emission related data. This document describes the data byte values for diagnostic messages transmitted between diagnostic test equipment, either on-vehicle or off-vehicle, and vehicle electronic control modules. No distinction is made between test modes for emission related and non-emission related diagnostics. These messages can be used with a diagnostic serial data link such as described in SAE J1850 or ISO 9141-2. For each test mode, this document includes a functional description of the test mode, request and report message data byte content, and an example if useful for clarification.

DUAL DIMENSIONING

1982-06-01
HISTORICAL
J390_198206
This document covers a dual dimensioning practice that provides both U.S. customary inch-pound units and SI metric units for all dimensions on the field of the drawing. The scope does not include the “chart method”—whereby drawings are dimensioned only in SI units—with conversions to inch-pound units provided in chart form (usually computer-generated) on the drawing. Further information on the chart method is found in SAE Handbook Supplement J1066, “Recommended Guidelines for Company Metrication Programs in the Metalworking Industry.”
