Diesel Emission Production Audit Test Procedure

2002-10-21
CURRENT
J1243_200210
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to a production dynamometer test procedure which can be used to measure the smoke and gaseous emission characteristics of vehicular diesel engines. This procedure describes the smoke emission test method, smoke test cycle, gaseous emission test method, steady-state gaseous emission test cycle, equipment, instrumentation, calibration, data analysis, and correlation of results for comparison of production engine emission performance to the requirements of current or past Federal regulations. Variations in engines, instrumentation, and test equipment may require modifications to these procedures or data reduction methods. The acceptability of this procedure is dependent upon documented statistical data appropriate to correlate all tests, data reduction techniques, and special instrumentation to the required Federal tests.

THRUST WASHERS—DESIGN AND APPLICATION

1995-02-01
HISTORICAL
J924_199502
This SAE Standard presents the basic size and tolerance information for the design and manufacture of thrust washers. In most cases, the standard employs nominal figures in both metric and inch-pound units and, therefore, does not necessarily provide exact equivalents.

MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE ROTATIONAL SPEED FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE FLYWHEELS

1995-07-03
HISTORICAL
J1456_199507
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to flywheels and flywheel-starter ring gear assemblies used with internal combustion engines of the spark ignition and diesel type equipped with a governor or speed limiting device. Engine sizes are those capable of using SAE No. 6 through SAE No. 00 flywheel housings. This document applies to methods used to determine the rotational speed capability of flywheels for stresses imposed by centrifugal forces only.

CONTINUOUS HYDROCARBON ANALYSIS OF DIESEL EMISSIONS

1988-06-01
HISTORICAL
J215_198806
The method presented is the current recommendation for the use of flame ionization detectors to determine the hydrocarbon content of diesel engine exhaust, or exhaust of vehicles using diesel engines, when operating at steady-state. The requirements of the associated sampling system and a general procedure for a continuous measuring method are presented.

Application Guide to Radial Lip Seals

2002-10-25
CURRENT
J946_200210
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as a guide to the use of radial lip type seals. It has been prepared from existing literature, which includes standards, specifications, and catalog data of both oil seal producers and users and includes generally accepted information and data. The main reason for the preparation of the document is to make standard information available in one document to the users of oil seals.

SEALS—TERMINOLOGY OF RADIAL LIP

1997-05-01
HISTORICAL
J111_199705
The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide a glossary of radial seal terms and nomenclature which are normally encountered in the design, manufacture, installation, testing, inspection, and failure mode analysis of radial seals. The information will aid in the understanding and communication among those people associated with radial seals.
