2014-04-01
2014-01-0753
As one of the most important auto-body moving parts, door hinge is the key point of door design and its accessories arrangement, also the premise of the door kinematic analysis. We proposed an effective layout procedure for door hinge and developed an intelligent system on CATIA CAA platform to execute it. One toolbar and five function modules are constructed - Axis Arrangement, Section, Parting Line, Kinematic, Hinge Database. This system integrated geometrical algorithms, automatically calculate the minimum clearances between doors, fender and hinges on sections to judge if the layout is feasible. As the sizes of the clearances are set to 0s, the feasible layout regions and extreme start/end points are shown in parts window, which help the engineer to check the parting line and design a new one. Our system successfully implemented the functions of five modules for the layout of door hinge axis and parting line based on a door hinge database.

2020-01-1156
The non-conventional diesel nozzles have attracted more and more attention for their ability to promote jet breakup. In the present study, the internal nozzle flow and jet breakup relying on the convergent-divergent nozzle are investigated by combining the cavitation model and LES model with Multi-Fluid-Quasi-VOF model based on the OpenFOAM code. This is a novel method for which the interphase forces caused by the relative velocity of gas and liquid can be taken into account while sharpening the gas-liquid interface, which is able to accurately present the evolution processes of cavitation and jet breakup. Primarily, the numerical model was verified by the mass flow rate, spray momentum flux, discharge coefficient and effective jet velocity of the prototype Spray D nozzle from the literature.

Chinese new legislations on two wheels and mopeds have been published recently. Depending on the latest exhaust statistic analyses, with the resulting of tighter limits, the application of catalytic converters is becoming a prevalent and a cost-efficient solution for Chinese motorcycle manufacturers. The phenomenon of exhaust temperature changes rapidly during real driving process is well known as one of major destructive factors which have effects upon converter's durability. One 125 cm3 motorcycle is selected as a typical model in this research project. Exhaust temperature of the 125 cm3 motorcycle is measured and recorded during the process of ECE 40 driving cycle. A simulation test system has been set up successfully depending on those temperature data. Conversion ratio of converter sample lost distinctly after 18 hours' thermal impact tests. After further analyses, there were not evident changes in microstructure and substance on the surface of converter.

2020-01-0201
In vehicle accident, the bumper beam generally requires high stiffness for sufficient survival space for occupants while it may cause serious pedestrian lower extremity injuries. The aim of this study is to promote an aluminum-steel hybrid material double-hat bumper to meet the comprehensive requirements. The hybrid bumper is designed to improve the frontal crash and pedestrian protection performances in collision accidents. Finite element (FE) models of the hybrid bumper was built, validated, and integrated into an automotive model. The Fixed Deformable Barrier (FDB) and Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) legform model were used to obtain the vehicle crashworthiness and pedestrian lower leg injury indicators. Numerical results showed that the hybrid bumper had a great potential for crashworthiness performance and pedestrian protection characteristics. Based on this, a multi-objective optimization design (MOD) was performed to search the optimal geometric parameters.

In order to ensure braking efficiency and improve the comfort of drivers and passengers, a two-stage braking grading control system was proposed. In the upper controller, the enhanced time-to-collision model under different working conditions was designed, and the braking threshold was determined considering the comfort of braking drivers and passengers, and the driver’s braking behavior was analyzed to determine the vehicle braking deceleration. The vehicle longitudinal dynamic model was built in the lower layer, the PID controller was used to reduce the model deviation. This paper improves the test standard on the basis of China-New Car Assessment Program. The results show that the remaining relative distance between the two vehicles was in the safe range. The control strategy can achieve collision avoidance of vehicle emergency braking.

Experimental Study on Impingement of Fuel Droplet on Substrates

2019-04-02
2019-01-0300
Within a gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, the impingement of fuel droplet on substrates induces various problems such as particular matter emission, oil dilution and abnormal combustion. Therefore, in order to solve these problems, it is urgent to have a clear understanding of the impingement behavior of fuel droplet impacting on substrates. Most previous studies have focused on the impingement of either water droplet on dry solid surface or the impinging droplet on the liquid film of the same type of liquid, while little research has been conducted on the impingement of fuel droplet on relevant substrates existing in GDI engines. The impingement of fuel droplet with higher Weber number on dry surface, fuel film and oil film with different thickness and viscosity were investigated experimentally. Results show that fuel droplet impacting on dry wall is easy to be deposited to form a fuel film. The fuel film attached to the wall is the main reason for the splash.

2015-01-2338
In-vehicle noise is composed of a variety of tonal (frequency-related) components and the tonal components play an important role in the improvement of interior vehicle sound quality. Much research has been focused on the suppression of sound pressure level and achieved certain positive effects. However, in some operating conditions, customers still perceive the tonal components and complain about the vehicle quality even the sound pressure level is relatively low. Therefore, a better understanding of how tonal components are perceived is necessary for automotive designers. To do so, psychoacoustics results about human hearing mechanism to tonal components are comprehensively summed in this study: human hearing response to pure tone, two tones and multiple tones. Then, well-controlled testing stimuli were generated and subjective annoyance testing was conducted. The results show agreement with former researchers' findings.

Characteristics of Single Fuel Droplet Impact on Oil Film

2019-04-02
2019-01-0304
In order to better understand the spray impingement behavior of the gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, this paper used the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) test method to conduct basic research on the fuel droplet impact onto the oil film. The effects of different incident droplet Weber number, dimensionless oil film thickness and oil film viscosity on the morphology of oil film after impact were investigated. And the composition of splashing droplets after impingement was analyzed. The morphology of oil film after impact was divided into three categories: stable crown, delayed splash crown, and prompt splash crown. The stable crown has only splashing fuel droplets, the splashing droplets of delayed splash crown are consist of fuel and oil film. The splashing droplets of prompt splash crown mainly include the oil film. It is shown that the larger the Weber number of incident droplets, the larger the dimensionless crown height and diameter, the easier the oil film will splash.

2015-01-0878
The performance of three different electric turbo-compounding systems under both steady and driving cycle condition is investigated in this paper. Three configurations studied in this paper are serial turbo-compounding, parallel turbo-compounding and electric assisted turbo-compounding. The electric power, global gain of the whole system (engine and power turbine) under steady operating condition is firstly studied. Then investigation under three different driving cycles is conducted. Items including fuel consumption, engine operating point distribution and transient response performance are analyzed among which the second item is done based on statistic method combined with the results obtained under steady operating conditions. Study under steady condition indicates that electric assisted turbo-compounding system is the best choice compared with the other two systems. The performance of serial turbo-compounding is load oriented while parallel configuration is speed oriented.

A Concise Camera-Radar Fusion Framework for Object Detection and Data Association

2022-12-22
2022-01-7097
Multi-sensor fusion strategies have gradually become a consensus in autonomous driving research. Among them, radar-camera fusion has attracted wide attention for its improvement on the dimension and accuracy of perception at a lower cost, however, the processing and association of radar and camera data has become an obstacle to related research. Our approach is to build a concise framework for camera and radar detection and data association: for visual object detection, the state-of-the-art YOLOv5 algorithm is further improved and works as the image detector, and before the fusion process, the raw radar reflection data is projected onto image plane and hierarchically clustered, then the projected radar echoes and image detection results are matched based on the Hungarian algorithm. Thus, the category of objects and their corresponding distance and speed information can be obtained, providing reliable input for subsequent object tracking task.

Vehicle Following Hybrid Control Algorithm Based on DRL and PID in Intelligent Network Environment

2022-12-22
2022-01-7113
Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has not been widely used in the engineering field yet because RL needs to be learned through ‘trial and error’, which makes the application of this kind of algorithm in real physical environment more difficult, and it is impossible to carry out ‘trial and error’ learning on real vehicles. By analyzing the motion state of the vehicle in the car following mode, the algorithm that combined traditional longitudinal motion control with DRL improves the safety of RL in the real physical environment and the poor adaptability of the traditional longitudinal motion control algorithm. In this paper, the longitudinal motion of the unmanned vehicle is taken as the research object, and the PID algorithm is combined with the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm to control the longitudinal motion of the unmanned vehicle.

Simulation Analysis and Optimization of Vehicle Transient Response Characteristics under Steering Angle Input

2015-04-14
2015-01-0646
The transient response characteristics of a vehicle under steering angle input are important evaluating indicators of vehicle handling stability. For a new developed vehicle, which was found that the transient response under steering angle input is too slow at high speed, a rigid-flexible coupling vehicle model is established in ADAMS/Car based on multi-body dynamics theory. Improvement measures are studied and put forward to improve the transient response characteristics of the vehicle. The sensitivities of transient response to various parameters are analyzed. The optimization method of adjusting the tire cornering stiffness and moving forward the mass center is adopted. The test data after improvement show that the response time of yaw velocity is shortened obviously. Meanwhile, the value of evaluation index in other tests remains basically unchanged.

Research on Intelligent Shift Strategy for Heavy Vehicles Based on Predictive Information

2024-04-09
2024-01-2140
By installing an automated mechanical transmission (AMT) on heavy-duty vehicles and developing a reasonable shift strategy, it can reduce driver fatigue and eliminate technical differences among drivers, improving vehicle performance. However, after detaching from the experience of good drivers, the current shifting strategy is limited to the vehicle state at the current moment, and cannot make predictive judgment of the road environment ahead, and problems such as cyclic shifting will occur due to insufficient power when driving on the ramp. To improve the adaptability of heavy-duty truck shift strategy to dynamic driving environments, this paper first analyzes the shortcomings of existing traditional heavy-duty truck shift strategies on slopes, and develops a comprehensive performance shift strategy incorporating slope factors. Based on this, forward-looking information is introduced to propose a predictive intelligent shift strategy that balances power and economy.
