The scope of this SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is a review of the factors contributing to speed variation of d-c motors, a presentation of typical data showing speed variation as a function of certain variables for representative motors, and a recommendation of a means of improving communications between motor users and manufacturers. The following analysis is limited to variations in voltage, torque, temperature, and altitude of the same magnitude as in MIL-M-8609.
This document covers resolvers which are used to perform coordinate transformations as well as sine and cosine computations, It includes both the categories of compensated and uncompensated resolvers which perform these functions. Linear resolvers are also included because of their similarity to resolvers.

This recommendation establishes objectives for high performance control motors to be used with aeronautical and associated equipment in protective enclosures or completely within the shell of the aircraft so that they are subjected only to the internal climatic conditions of heat, cold, shock, vibration, altitude, and humidity. Control motors larger than size #23 are not covered in this document.

This Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the general minimum performance standards for generators/starter-generators and associated voltage regulators for use in direct current (DC) electric systems for civil aircraft.
This specification relates to Synchros, 60 and 400 Hz. It is not complete in itself, but shall be used in conjunction with MIL-DTL-81963, in which the latter shall be recognized as forming an inherent part of this specification. This standard requires a Qualified Products List (see 6.4).
