This SAE Information Report describes results of testing of the SAE J1746 ISP-Vehicle Standard for the communication of spatial data references between central sites and mobile vehicles on roads. Testing was performed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and its contractors, resulting in a document from which this Information Report has been extracted. Tests were performed by computer analysis and corroborated by field tests with a mobile vehicle.

This SAE Recommended Practice applies to both Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and aftermarket ITS message-generating systems for passenger vehicles and heavy trucks. The recommended practice describes the method for prioritizing ITS in-vehicle messages and/or displayed information based on a defined set of criteria. Each criterion has a fixed number of levels that are used to rate/rank a given message or information item to determine its prioritization value. The prioritization value is used to determine the priority in which simultaneous, or overlapping, in-vehicle messages are presented to the driver.

With the advent of computer based electronics being utilized in automobiles, the Electromagnetic Radiation Subcommittee has deemed it prudent that a new test method be written to provide a common test for the measurement of narrowband radiation from vehicles and devices. This SAE Standard covers methods of measuring incidental narrowband radiation from vehicles and devices. The standard also establishes performance levels intended to protect nearby communication and broadcast receivers. It is intended to serve as an alternate method of measuring electromagnetic radiation which is analogous to the FCC Part 15 methodology but adapted to measuring vehicles. The equivalent procedures for broadband emissions are set forth in SAE J551. This standard covers narrowband emissions in the frequency range of 10 kHz to 1000 MHz. An example of such radiation is the unintended emission from on-board logic and computer modules.

This SAE Standard provides a table of textual messages meeting the requirements for expressing “Radio Data Systems” (RDS) phrases commonly used in the ITS industry. They can be used both over the RDS subcarrier transmission media as part of a 37-bit long “Group 8a message” as well as being used to provide a common content list of phrases used in a wide number of other media and applications. This document SHALL define the normative index values to be used, extending the CEN established list to provide phrases needed by US practitioners. This standard provides non-normative textual phrases which MAY be used by implementers to ensure intelligible results. This document SHALL follow the formats and rules established in SAE J2540 in the expressions, manipulations, and use of such tables. It should be pointed out that within the rules established by this document a variety of final table are all considered “compliant” with the document, and may vary as fits the needs of implementers.

Since little data exists to provide appropriate values for control parameters that would be appropriate for mature drivers, the following recommendations are of a general nature. However, they are based upon the current understanding of the aging processes that characterize mature drivers. Notwithstanding the lack of an extensive amount of data in this field, the dissemination of this SAE Information Report is considered to be appropriate and timely in light of the large increase in the number of mature drivers on the public roads, and because of the need to at least initiate efforts toward developing an information report covering this issue. It is realized that there may be cases where specific recommendations may conflict with vehicle packaging and/or operational requirements. Deviation from the recommendations may be necessary and permissible to achieve the best overall system performance.

Recommended Test Procedure for Powered Gas Brake Control Systems

This test procedure is for qualification testing of powered gas/brake control systems to assure compliance with the recommended practices for these assistive devices. A powered gas/brake control system which passes all of the tests shall be considered to be in compliance with the recommended practices. The control shall pass all tests denoted by a “shall” in the recommended practice or the recommended test procedure (RTP). All the results of all tests and requirements denoted by a “should” shall be noted, but failure to comply will not constitute failure to pass the test.

This SAE Standard describes the interface between an on-vehicle Mayday detection, reporting system and the off-vehicle response center that will manage the response to the vehicle's call for assistance. The automatic detection and reporting by either the intelligent vehicle itself or by the intelligent roadway of a vehicle that is disabled or involved in an accident, [referred to as Automatic Mayday], is one of the key services identified by the ITS America program plan road map. This effort has been identified, as STD SAE J2313 in recent DOT-FHWA efforts to advance needed National standards. This document primarily addresses the responsibilities of a vehicle in detecting and reporting such an event. Equipment suites on each vehicle will vary widely, as will the communications channel employed to report the incident.

The scope and purpose of the SAE Recommended Practice is to provide standards for the control and indication of parking brakes in hydraulic braked vehicles over 4540 kg (10000 lb) GVWR. This recommended practice pertains to automatic transmission applications and supplements the SAE J915 recommended practice. This recommended practice does not address parking brake system performance. Parking brake system performance, both static and dynamic conditions, is the responsibility of the OEM vehicle manufacturer or manufacturers that modify the vehicle by adding special vocational required equipment (such as but not limited to outriggers, cranes, etc.).

It applies to 60 degrees female cones with external threaded connectors types 1 and 2 (see Figures 1, 2, and 3), and to the internal threaded tube nuts and male cone type end assembly (see Figure 4) of high-pressure pipe connections for tubes with diameters up to 12 mm inclusive.
