LOGICAL SOFTWARE PART PACKAGING FOR TRANSPORT

2020-11-16
CURRENT
ARINC641-1
The purpose of this standard is to provide a method for packaging aircraft software parts for distribution using contemporary media or by electronic distribution. This project intends to standardize and provide guidance for the storage of floppy based software, currently packaged in media set parts. This standard format can be then stored or distributed on a single physical media member (CD-ROM), or by electronic crate. The obsolescence of floppy disks drive an urgent need for this guidance.

AIRCRAFT DATA INTERFACE FUNCTION (ADIF)

2020-07-21
CURRENT
ARINC834-8
This document defines an Aircraft Data Interface Function (ADIF) developed for aircraft installations that incorporate network components based on commercially available technologies. This document defines a set of protocols and services for the exchange of aircraft avionics data across aircraft networks. A common set of services that may be used to access specific avionics parameters are described. The ADIF may be implemented as a generic network service, or it may be implemented as a dedicated service within an ARINC 759 Aircraft Interface Devices (AID) such as those used with an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Supplement 8 includes improvements in the Aviation Data Broadcast Protocol (ADBP), adds support for the Media Independent Aircraft Messaging (MIAM) protocol, and contains data security enhancements. It also includes notification and deprecation of the Generic Aircraft Parameter Service (GAPS) protocol that will be deleted in a future supplement.

MEDIA INDEPENDENT SECURE OFFBOARD NETWORK

2020-06-19
CURRENT
ARINC848
ARINC Specification 848 is a functional standard based on a protocol specification profile for a secured network interface. The purpose is to define a common method of initiating a mutually authenticated tunnel between an aircraft service and its Enterprise service. ARINC Specification 848 defines a standard implementation for securing the communications between an onboard Local Area Network (LAN) and an Enterprise LAN on the ground. Various aircraft network architectures and various air to ground communication channels (aka media) are accommodated in this document. For example, L-band Satellite Communication (Satcom), Ku/Ka-band Satcom, Gatelink Cellular, and Gatelink are considered.

Fiber Optic Strain Sensor Standardization - International and European Activities

2012-03-16
With the increased demand for high volume, cost-effective, fiber-reinforced thermoplastic parts, the lack of high throughput systems has become more pronounced. Thermoforming as a method to generate complex shapes from a flat preform is dependable and fast. In order to use readily available, standard unidirectional impregnated thermoplastic tape in this process, a flat perform must be created prior to the thermoforming step. Formerly, creating the preform by hand layup was a time consuming and therefore costly, step. Fiberforge?s patented RELAY technology overcomes the challenges of handling thermoplastic prepreg tape and provides a solution through the automated creation of a flat preform, referred to as a Tailored Blank?. Producing a part for thermoforming with accurate ply orientation and scrap minimization is now as simple as loading a material spool followed by a pressing a start button. Vertical Picture-Frame Wing Jig Structure Design with an Eye to Foundation Loading

2012-03-14
The foundation of many production aircraft assembly facilities is a more dynamic and unpredictable quantity than we would sometimes care to admit. Any tooling structures constructed on these floors, no matter how thoroughly analyzed or well understood, are at the mercy of settling and shifting concrete, which can cause very lengthy and costly periodic re-certification and adjustment procedures. It is with this in mind, then, that we explore the design possibilities for one such structure to be built in Belfast, North Ireland for the assembly of the Shorts C-Series aircraft wings. We evaluate the peak floor pressure, weight, gravity deflection, drilling deflection, and thermal deflection of four promising structures and discover that carefully designed pivot points and tension members can offer significant benefits in some areas.

Laser-Assisted Filler-Based Joining for Battery Assembly in Aviation

2020-10-19
Abstract A key problem of the construction of fully electric aircraft is the limited energy density of battery packs. It is generally accepted that this can only be overcome via new, denser battery chemistry together with a further increase in the efficiency of power utilization. One appealing approach for achieving the latter is using laser-assisted filler-based joining technologies, which offers unprecedented flexibility for achieving battery cell connections with the least possible electrical loss. This contribution presents our results on the effect of various experimental and process parameters on the electrical and mechanical properties of the laser-formed bond.
