This Recommended Practice establishes a uniform specification for reference usage in specific documents, such as fluid power component test procedures, where a fluid designation is required.
This Information Report is intended to provide reference material for the selection and use of fire-resistant fluids in the hydraulic systems of off-road work machinery with separate hydraulic oil sump.
Applies to hydraulic seals used to seal the rods of hydraulic cylinders which are components of Off-Road Self-Propelled Work Machines defined in SAE J1116.

This procedure describes laboratory tests for establishing operating characteristics of hydraulic directional control valves used on mobile industrial and construction equipment as referenced in SAE J1116. These characteristics are to be recorded on data sheets similar to those shown herein. Two sets of data are to be submitted--one at 122°F (50°C) and one at 194°F (90°C). A separate set of data sheets is to be submitted for the cylinder ports closest to, and farthest from the inlet and outlet ports of a multiple section valve.
The method is applicable to new mineral and synthetic hydraulic fluids—regardless of packaging. This recommended practice is not intended as a procedure for operating equipment.
To provide a method by which to assess the cleanliness of new hydraulic fluids. The method is applicable to new mineral and synthetic hydraulic fluids - regardless of packaging. This SAE Standard is not intended as a procedure for operating equipment.

This test procedure describes tests for determining characteristics of hydraulic cylinders as used on construction and industrial mobile machinery as referenced in SAE J1116. In this code, metric equivalents are established according to SAE J916. These characteristics are to be recorded on data sheets similar to the ones shown herein. Two sets of data sheets are to be submitted for each cylinder, one set at 120 °F (49 °C) and one at 180 °F (82 °C).
