New Considerations in Hydraulic Fluid Testing

1965-02-01
650329
Some requirements imposed by specifications on aviation hydraulic fluids are unjustified in view of actual conditions to be met in application. Tests pertaining to stability, compatibility, and cleanliness are particularly prone to be conducted under conditions that are either too stringent or too lenient. Examples are given to show how standard tests can lead to erroneous conclusions. An appeal is made for caution in interpretation of test results and for a more rational approach in establishing requirements.
