Sound Measurement—Off-Road Self-Propelled Work Machines Operator-Work Cycle

2014-09-18
HISTORICAL
J1166_201409
This SAE Standard sets forth the procedures to be used in measuring sound levels and determining the time weighted sound level at the operator's station(s) of specified off-road self-propelled work machines. This document applies to the following work machines which have operator stations as specified in SAE J1116: • Crawler Loader • Grader • Log Skidder • Wheel Loader • Crawler Tractor with Dozer • Pipelayer • Dumper • Wheel Tractor with Dozer • Trencher • Tractor Scraper • Backhoe • Sweeper • Roller/Compactor • Hydraulic Excavator • Pad Foot Wheel Compactor with Dozer • Excavator and Wheel Feller-Buncher The instrumentation requirements and specific work cycles for these machines are described. The method used to calculate the time weighted average sound level at the operator station(s) is specified for Leq(5), or optional exchange rates, during continuous operation in a work cycle representing continuous medium to heavy work.

HISTORICAL
J1075_200711
This SAE Standard sets forth measurement procedures and instrumentation to be used for determining a “representative” sound level during a representative time period at selected measurement locations on a construction site boundary. The document is not intended for use in determining occupational hearing damage risk. Determination of a representative time period is left to the judgment of the user.

Sound Measurement - Off-Road Work Machines - Exterior

2013-06-20
CURRENT
J88_201306
This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring the exterior sound pressure levels for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in sections 1, 3, 5 and 6 of SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this document are repeatable and are representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to the variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for construction site boundary noise evaluations.

SOUND POWER LEVEL MEASUREMENTS - EARTHMOVING MACHINERY (DOZER, LOADER, EXCAVATOR, AND BACKHOE) - IN PLACE DYNAMIC - SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL OR SOUND INTENSITY METHOD

1987-04-01
HISTORICAL
J1805_198704
The requirements for setting up and operating the machinery, the microphone array and hemispherical measurement surface are given in this document. This document shall be used in conjunction with manufacturer's recommendations pending finalization of ANSI documents on the subject of sound intensity procedures. The accompanying sound intensity procedure clarification is provided pending more widespread understanding of sound intensity.

SOUND MEASUREMENT—EARTHMOVING MACHINERY—EXTERIOR

1985-03-01
HISTORICAL
J88_198503
This SAE Standard is applicable to machinery of 15 kw (20 rated bhp) and over. It is not intended to cover operation of safety devices (such as backup alarms). The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this SAE Standard are repeatable and are representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by the machinery under actual field operating conditions, but do not necessarily represent the average sound level over a field use cycle.

OPERATOR SOUND LEVEL MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE FOR EARTHMOVING MACHINERY—SINGULAR TYPE TEST

1979-04-01
HISTORICAL
J919C_197904
This SAE Standard is applicable to machinery of 15 kw (20 bhp) rated and over, that have operator stations where the operator can either stand or sit and will be transported by the machine during its operation. It is not intended for use with agricultural equipment. The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this SAE Standard are in general repeatable, and are representative of the higher range of the sound levels generated by the machinery under field operating conditions, but do not necessarily represent the equivalent sound level over a field use cycle. For measurement and calculation of the operator’s sound exposure, use SAE Recommended Practice J1166a.
