Test Method for Vulcanized Rubber and Thermoplastic Elastomer Determination of Compressive Stress Relaxation (CSR) Response

2012-05-30
CURRENT
J2979_201205
The scope of this document is to define a test method for performing the Compression Stress Relaxation (CSR) Test with the Automotive Standard (ASD) CSR Jig using the appropriate test fixtures, configurations and procedures. This standard defines the equipment needed, guidelines for running the test, and the format for generating the results and analyzing the data.

Standard Reference Elastomers (SREs) for Characterizing the Effect of Liquids on Vulcanized Rubbers

2023-05-10
CURRENT
J2643_202305
This SAE Standard specifies requirements for vulcanized rubbers in sheet form for use as standards in characterizing the effect of test liquids and service fluids. The appendices contain the standard reference elastomer formulas. The property changes of the SRE in contact with the indicated fluid under specified test conditions are the responsibility of the user. See 7.3 and Table 1. This standard is not designed to provide formulations of elastomeric product compositions for actual service.

SPONGE- AND EXPANDED CELLULAR-RUBBER PRODUCTS1

1988-08-01
HISTORICAL
J18_198808
This specification covers flexible cellular rubber products known as sponge rubbers and expanded rubbers but does not apply to latex foam rubbers. The base material used in their manufacture may be natural rubber, reclaimed rubber, synthetic rubber or rubber-like materials, alone or in combination. Ebonite cellular rubbers are not included.

HISTORICAL
J17_200305
These specifications and methods of testing apply to cellular-rubber products known as latex foam rubbers but do not apply to sponge and expanded rubbers. The base material used in their manufacture may be natural rubber, reclaimed rubber, synthetic rubber, or rubberlike materials, alone or in combination. In case of conflict between the provisions of these general specifications and those of detailed specifications or methods of test for a particular product, the latter shall take precedence. Reference to methods for testing cellular-rubber products should specifically state the particular test or tests desired. The SAE Committee on Automotive Rubber Specifications has concluded, that in light of the fact that SAE J17 is a mirror image of ASTM D 1055, SAE J17 will be eliminated in the year 2005.
