2017-03-28
2017-01-0438
A multitude of recent studies are suggestive of the EV as a paramount representative of the NEV, its development direction is transformed from “individuals adapt to vehicles” to “vehicles serve for occupants”. The multi-mode drive control technology is relatively mature in traditional auto control sphere, however, a host of EV continues to use a single control strategy, which lacks of flexibility and diversity, little if nothing interprets the vehicle performances. Furthermore, due to the complex road environment and peculiarity of vehicle occupants that different requirement has been made for vehicle performance. To solve above problems, this paper uses the key technology of mathematical statistics process in MATLAB, such as the mean, linear fitting and discrete algorithms to clean up, screening and classification the original data in general rules, and based on short trips in the segments of kinematics analysis method to establish a representative of quintessential driving cycle.

2019-01-1107
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP), as a key actuator of traditional automobile braking system, plays an important role in the development of intelligent vehicles by accurately controlling the pressure of wheels. However, the ESP is a highly nonlinear controlled object due to the changing of the working temperature, humidity, and hydraulic load. In this paper, an accurate pressure control strategy of single wheel during active braking of ESP is proposed, which doesn’t rely on the specific parameters of the hydraulic system and ESP. First, the structure and working principle of ESP have been introduced. Then, we discuss the possibility of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control based on the mathematical model of the high-speed switching valve. Subsequently, the pressure building characteristics of the inlet and outlet valves are analyzed by the hardware in the Loop (HiL) experimental platform.

CFD Analysis of VVT/VVA on the Gas Exchange and Fuel-Air Mixing in a Diesel Engine

2008-06-23
2008-01-1635
A three-dimensional simulation was carried out for investigating effects of negative valve overlap (NVO) on gas exchange and fuel-air mixing processes in a diesel homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine with early fuel injection. It was found that the case with longer NVO produced a stronger swirl motion and a more significant vortex below the intake valve due to the high annular jet flow through the valve curtain area during the intake stroke. However, there was not much difference in the values of swirl ratio, tumble ratio and turbulence intensity between different NVOs at the end of compression stroke. It was also seen that enlarged NVO not just increased in-cylinder temperature but also improved the temperature homogeneity. With increased NVO, there is a bigger spray shape and more droplets exist in gaps of sprays. This demonstrates that stronger turbulence intensity and higher temperature homogeneity with higher NVO improve fuel vaporization and air-fuel mixing.

2008-01-1683
Hydraulic system is very important for the performance of AT. The dynamic characteristics of automatic transmission hydraulic system are studied in this paper. Because the valves in the hydraulic system are not standard parts, ITI-SimulationX, the multi-domain physics simulation software from ITI GmbH, is used to build the dynamic model of the hydraulic system based on the basic elements in the library of SimulationX. And then the dynamic characteristics of the system are simulated. The simulation results and the test results from the test bench are compared to confirm the simulation model. The results show that the simulation model can couple with the real system very well and the simulation model can be confirmed. Based on the confirmed simulation model, the effects of different parameters of the hydraulic system on the characteristics of the system are analyzed.

Generally, noise will occur during steering with the hydraulic power steering system (hereinafter HPS). The noise producing in the rotary valve takes up a big proportion of the total one. To study the noise in the control valve, 2-D meshes of the flow field between the sleeve and the rotor were set up and a general CFD code-Fluent was used to analyze the flow inside the valve. The areas where the noise may be occurred were shown and some suggestions to silence the noise were given.

2022-01-7059
Due to the lack of masking effect from the engine, noise and vibration from the drivetrain system have become a critical issue in electric vehicles. To address this problem, this study aims at proposing a comprehensive optimization method with respect to multiple internal excitation sources to reduce the noise and vibration of the electric drivetrain system (EDS). A rigid-flexible coupling dynamic (RFCD) model is first proposed by incorporating the elements of electric motors, gear pairs, bearings, shafts, and housing. Based on the proposed model, optimizations concerning multiple internal excitations are carried out by designing the notch width of the stator core and optimizing the modification parameters of the tooth surface along the flank and lead direction. Meanwhile, multiple operating conditions are considered in the optimization of the tooth surface to cover a complete working condition of the EDS.

Performance Analysis of Multi-Speed Torque Coupler for Hybrid Electric Vehicle

2016-04-05
2016-01-1149
A novel torque-coupling architecture for hybrid electric vehicles is proposed. The torque-coupling device is based on automated manual transmission (AMT), which is highly efficient and provides six gears for the engine and three gears for each motor to enable the engine and the motors to work at high-efficiency levels in most cases. The proposed power-shift AMT (P-AMT) does not have a hydraulic torque converter and wet clutches, which dampen the driveline shock. Thus, the drivability control of the P-AMT becomes a challenging issue. Accurate engine, motor model and transmission model have been built and the dynamic control of the gear shift process of PAMT in hybrid mode is simulated. The electric motors compensate for the traction loss during the gear shift of the engine.

2012-01-0520
In this paper, a shock absorber physical model is developed. Firstly, a rebound valve model which is based on its structure parameters is built through using the large deflection theory. The von Karman equations are introduced to discover the physical relationships between the load and the deflection of valve discs. An analytical solution of the von Karman equations is then deducted via perturbation method. Secondly, the flow equations and the pressure equations of the shock absorber operating are investigated. The relationship between fluid flow rate and pressure drop of rebound valve is analyzed based on the analytical solution of valve discs deflection. Thirdly, an inter-iterative process of flow rate and pressure drop is employed in order to adequately consider the influence of fluid flow on damping force. Finally, the physical model is validated by comparing the experimental data with the simulation output.

2023-01-0431
Intake system is an important noise source for commercial vehicles, which has a significant impact on their NVH performance. To predict the intake noise more accurately, a new one-dimensional prediction model is proposed in this paper. An air compressor model is introduced into the traditional model, and the acoustic properties of the intake system are simulated by GT-power. The simulation data of the inlet noise is obtained to make a comparison with the inlet noise data acquired from a test. The result shows that the proposed model can make a more precise prediction of the inlet noise. Compared with the traditional model, the proposed model can identify the noise coming from the air compressor, and achieve a more accurate prediction of the total sound pressure level of the inlet noise.

2016-01-1307
A vehicle vibration issue emerged for a hybrid prototype during low speed driving in EV mode. This work is focused on the effort to identify the root cause and resolve the issue. The endeavor begins by performing a motor test in moderate acceleration with an imposed constant torque load. All relevant information is simultaneously recorded, including vehicle speed, vibration of motor structure and seat track, motor rpm, voltage and current signals, etc. Then analyses are carried out to strive for a better understanding of the vibration characteristics and identify its mechanism. It is found that the torque ripple from the driving motor is the root cause of the low speed vehicle vibration in EV mode, and the torque ripple is found to be induced by the current distortion resulted from the current sensor drift and electromagnetic interference due to high current signals.

2020-01-5227
Aiming at the low transmission efficiency and power density of the hydraulic automatic transmission (AT), and the increasingly complex structure of its planetary gear with the increase of transmission gears, this paper proposes a new type of binary logic transmission (BLT), which adopts the double internal meshing planetary row (DIMPR), based on a heavy-duty commercial vehicle. By introducing the concept of BLT and analyzing the transmission performance of the DIMPR, the process of scheme design of binary double internal meshing planetary gear transmission (BDIMPGT) is established. According to the structural characteristics of the DIMPG, the support structure of the planetary gear is designed based on CAD and CATIA. In the structural design of binary clutches, V-groove clutch parts are coupled to the transmission case, planetary carrier, and sun shaft, respectively, in each DIMPG.

2007-01-3688
The fracture of the retainer leads to the failure of the needle rolling bearings in a planetary gear train of a planetary gearbox. In order to solve this engineering problem, the kinematics and kinetics of the failed needle rolling bearings is analyzed with the analytical model and the numerical model. A simple mathematical model is pointed out to analyze the dynamic load of a needle rolling element in the failed bearings. The assembling position of the small sun gear is also found to influence the performance of the needle rolling bearings significantly and therefore a best scheme for modifying the structure of the planetary gearbox is pointed out based on the multi-object optimization theory to reduce the bearing load heavily. Based on the calculated work, a systematic method of choosing the proper bearings for planetary gearbox can be concluded.

2017-01-2444
High-speed rotating gears are generally lubricated by spray lubrication. Lubricating oil is driven by high-speed rotating gear, and some lubricating oil will be excited into oil mist, so that the gears are in the gas-liquid mixed environment. In this paper, the computational fluid dynamics model of the spray lubrication cooling process is established based on the gear heat transfer behavior under the spray lubrication condition. The influence of different spray parameters on the liquid-solid two-phase convective heat transfer coefficient is obtained. On this basis, the accurate boundary conditions of gear temperature field calculation are analyzed by studying the heat transfer behavior of high speed gear spray lubrication. The calculation model of gear temperature based on spray lubrication is established, and the temperature field distribution of gear is obtained.

2020-01-5046
Based on the traditional heavy commercial vehicle, hydraulic hub-motor drive vehicle (HHMDV) is equipped with a hydraulic hub-motor auxiliary drive system, which makes the vehicle change from the rear-wheel drive to the four-wheel drive to improve the traction performance on low-adhesion road. In the typical operating mode of the vehicle, the leakage of the hydraulic system increases because of the oil temperature rising, this makes the control precision of the hydraulic system drop. Therefore, a temperature compensation control strategy for the assist mode is proposed in this paper. According to the principle of flow continuity, considering the loss of the system and the expected wheel speed, the control strategy of multifactor target pump displacement based on temperature compensation is derived. The control strategy is verified by the co-simulation platform of MATLAB/Simulink and AMESim.
