AUTOMOTIVE TUBE FITTINGS

1975-12-01
HISTORICAL
J512J_197512
This standard covers complete general and dimensional specifications for the various types of tube fittings intended for general application in the automotive, appliance, and allied fields. Flare type fittings shall be as specified in Figs. 1-4 and Tables 1-3. NOTE: For sizes 3/16-3/8 and 1/2-3/4 the flare type fittings depicted in Figs. 1A-3C are identical with the corresponding refrigeration tube fittings specified in SAE J513. Special size combination fittings 3/16-3/8 and 1/2-3/4 shall be as specified in J513. Inverted flared type fittings shall be as specified in Figs. 5-11 and Tables 1, 4-7. Gages and gaging procedures pertaining to inverted flared tube fittings are given in Appendix A. NOTE: The seat dimensions specified in Table 4 are predicated on practical threading limitations in steel fittings and use of these fittings with double flared tubing.

AVSC Best Practice for Developing ADS Safety Performance Thresholds Based on Human Driving Behavior

2023-08-29
CURRENT
AVSC00012202308
Automated driving system (ADS) developers need a way to describe safe and competent driving for automated driving system-dedicated vehicles (ADS-DVs) in a way that is relatable to how stakeholders interpret safe driving today. Metrics informed by competent and safe human behavior could improve understanding and confidence in ADS-DVs. One way to make ADS safety performance relatable to stakeholders is to adopt an intuitive comparison to behaviors displayed on the road by human drivers. This best practice outlines an approach which involves comparing the on-road driving behavior of ADSs to that of human drivers, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of ADS behavior and its implications. It includes and assessment that centers on the predictability and similarity of ADS behavior relative to observed human driving behavior. By adopting this approach, a more comprehensive evaluation of the performance of ADS fleets can be achieved.

Accommodation Tool Reference Point

1998-12-01
HISTORICAL
J1516_199812
Reference lines have been developed to which driver workspace accomodation tools can be located in vehicle space. The lines describe horizontal reference point locations as a function of vehicle H-point height (H30). One reference line has been established for use in vehicles with H-point heights (H30) and steering wheel diameters (W9) less than 405 and 450 mm, respectively. (Class A Vehicles) This point can be used to reference appropriate workspace tools to accommodate a driver population with a male-to-female ratio of one-to-one. Separate reference lines have been established for use in vehicles with H-point heights (H30) between 405 and 530 mm and steering wheel diameters (W9) between 450 and 560 mm with treadle type pedals. (Class B Vehicles) See Figure 1. Three lines are available for use in Class B vehicles depending on the percentages of males and females in the population the designer wishes to accommodate.
