A Guideline for Application of High-Density Fiber Optic Interconnects to Aerospace Platforms

2022-07-08
CURRENT
AIR5271A
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR5271) covers the basic attributes of a second-generation robust, reliable high-density fiber optic interconnect system for aerospace applications. The intent is to take advantage of recent commercial developments in materials, components and manufacturing methods to develop rugged high-density fiber optic interconnects optimized for aerospace and automotive applications, which can accommodate a variety of optical fiber waveguide types. These waveguide types include single mode and multi-mode glass/glass fibers and waveguides, plastic clad silica fibers and waveguides, and all polymer fibers and waveguides. This second generation interconnect system should represent a dramatic improvement over first generation. The cable should be extremely robust eliminating any concerns over cable damage or fiber breakage in an aerospace environment.

A MEANS OF TESTING TURBOJET ENGINE STARTER PERFORMANCE

1963-11-01
HISTORICAL
ARP715
This Recommended Practice covers a means of determining the performance acceptability of new production or overhauled starters that will be used for cranking turbine engines and is intended for use where torque measuring equipment is not available or desirable. This method determines acceptability of the overall performance of the starter on a flywheel test stand, rather than the performance at specific speed conditions. It allows a slight variation of output torque outside specified limits, as long as the overall performance is up to standard.

CURRENT
ARINC766
This documents defines the Installation Characteristics of an airborne radio transceiver capable of broadband wireless communication with an Airport Surface Network. The Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communications System (AeroMACS) Radio Unit (ARU) will operate in the aeronautical protected frequency of 5091 MHz to 5150 MHz, utilizing the IEEE 802.16e WiMAX protocol. It is intended to offload some of the congested narrowband VHF airport traffic used for ATS and AOC communications. ARU and Antenna Form, Fit, Function and Interfaces are described.

AEROSPACE - FLIGHT CONTROL ACTUATOR DISPLACEMENT - METHOD FOR COLLECTION OF DUTY CYCLE DATA

1994-05-01
HISTORICAL
ARP4895
The scope of this SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) covers acquisition of flight test data for use in developing a statistical data base of aerospace vehicle flight control surface actuator duty cycle. The statistical data base is intended for use in establishing industry guidelines and procurement specification requirements for actuator displacement duty cycle. The objective of this ARP is to provide a uniform method for the aerospace industry to collect flight control displacement type duty cycle data during demonstration and full scale development of new aircraft or during development testing of new models of existing aircraft.

AEROSPACE GLOSSARY FOR HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERS

2008-02-16
HISTORICAL
ARP4107
This Glossary is designed to serve persons who need to know the accepted meanings, within specific contexts, of the terminology used in reports, articles, regulations, and other materials dealing with aviation safety -- with particular reference to terms specific to human factors in aviation safety. It is assumed that some users of the Glossary will be familiar with the nomenclature of aviation, but will need information on the language of human factors in engineering as they apply to aviation safety. Others (for example, engineers and psychologists) will have fairly extensive knowledge of the terminology of their own and related disciplines, but will need authoritative definitions of technical terms specific to aviation. Within the foregoing general framework, the following guidelines for the inclusion of terms to be defined have been observed:
