Characterizing a Test Surface for Motorcycle Side Stand Retraction Performance Testing

2014-10-24
CURRENT
J1846_201410
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended for use only in characterizing test surfaces used in motorcycle side stand retraction testing (SAE J1578). The equipment and procedure described in this document yields repeatable results in characterizing test surfaces in a way found to be related to retraction performance. The test results obtained with this procedure do not necessarily correlate with measurements obtained with other friction measurement procedures which have been developed for other purposes.

MEASUREMENT OF EXHAUST SOUND LEVELS OF STATIONARY MOTORCYCLES

1993-06-01
HISTORICAL
J1287_199306
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the sound levels of motorcycles under stationary conditions. This test will measure primarily exhaust noise and does not represent the optimum procedure for evaluating total vehicle noise. For this purpose, SAE J331 or SAE J47 is recommended.

J1287_198203
This document establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the sound levels of motorcycles under stationary conditions. This test will measure primarily exhaust noise, but does not represent the best procedure for evaluating total vehicle noise. For this purpose, SAE Recommended Practice J331a, Sound Levels for Motorcycles, or SAE Recommended Practice J47, Maximum Sound Level Potential for Motorcycles, are recommended.

J1167_198906
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes test procedures and performance requirements for stop lamp switches intended for use in an AC or a DC circuit on motorcycles. In service use may impose specific conditions on the switch which can affect its functional life. Those conditions should be replicated, as necessary, during the testing described in this document to ensure the adequate functioning of the device.

Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary Motorcycles

2008-05-28
HISTORICAL
J1287_200805
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the exhaust sound pressure levels of motorcycles under stationary conditions. Care must be taken not to confuse stationary sound pressure levels with total motorcycle sound pressure levels. This test does not evaluate total motorcycle sound during operation. For this purpose, SAE J331 or SAE J47 is recommended. Any allowable sound limits (dBA) set in relation to SAE J1287 for exhaust sound pressure level should not conflict with the allowable sound limits (dBA) for total sound pressure level per the EPA requirements specified in the US Code of Federal Regulations, 40 Part 205.

Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary Motorcycles

2017-04-28
CURRENT
J1287_201704
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the exhaust sound pressure levels of motorcycles under stationary conditions. Since initial publication, it has been successfully applied to regulation and monitoring of sound pressure levels of off-highway vehicles, and that remains its recommended application. Users of SAE J1287 for the purpose of roadside enforcement of sound pressure levels for on-highway motorcycles have reported difficulties with its implementation in that application. In response, SAE J2825 was developed, and is recommended for measurement of exhaust sound pressure levels of stationary on-highway motorcycles. Care must be taken not to confuse stationary sound pressure levels with total motorcycle sound pressure levels. This test does not evaluate total motorcycle sound during operation. For this purpose, SAE J331 or SAE J47 is recommended.

Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles

2009-05-28
HISTORICAL
J2825_200905
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes test procedures, test conditions, environment, and instrumentation for determining the exhaust sound pressure levels of stationary motorcycles. These are based on a comprehensive study of a wide variety of on-highway motorcycles, and therefore are intended to be applied to on-highway motorcycles. For off-highway motorcycles, SAE J1287 continues to be the recommended practice.
