SOUND LEVEL MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE FOR TRENCHING EQUIPMENT

1979-04-01
HISTORICAL
J1262_197904
All types of trenching equipment regardless of engine size may be tested under this recommended practice. It is not intended to cover operation of safety devices such as backup alarms or accessories such as paving breakers. The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this SAE Recommended Practice are repeatable and are representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by the machinery under actual field operating conditions, but do not necessarily represent the average sound level over a field use cycle. For measurement and calculation of the operator’s sound exposure, the procedure should follow the SAE Recommended Practice J1166a.

SOUND POWER DETERMINATION—EARTHMOVING MACHINERY—STATIC CONDITION

1981-12-01
J1372_198112
The requirements for setting up and operating the machinery, the microphone array and the size of the hemispherical measurement surface are given in this recommended practice. This recommended practice shall be used in conjunction with ISO 4872-1978, which gives the basic criteria for the acoustic environment, instrumentation, microphone positions, procedures for the measurement of the A-weighted sound pressure levels and the calculation of the A-weighted sound power levels.

Sound Measurement--Trenching Machines

1999-07-08
CURRENT
J1262_199907
This SAE Standard specifies procedures for measuring operator and exterior sound levels emitted by self-powered trenching machines regardless of engine size. This procedure does not cover operation of devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories such as paving breakers. The sound levels obtained using this procedure are repeatable and representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions, but do not necessarily represent the average sound level over a field use cycle. Measurement and calculation of the operator's sound exposure should follow SAE J1166.

Sound Measurement—Construction Site

2000-06-28
HISTORICAL
J1075_200006
This SAE Standard sets forth measurement procedures and instrumentation to be used for determining a “representative” sound level during a representative time period at selected measurement locations on a construction site boundary. The document is not intended for use in determining occupational hearing damage risk. Determination of a representative time period is left to the judgment of the user.
