Alarm - Backup - Electric Laboratory Performance Testing

2023-06-27
CURRENT
J994_202306
The scope of this SAE Standard is the definition of the functional, environmental, and life cycle test requirements for electrically operated backup alarm devices primarily intended for use on off-road, self-propelled work machines as defined by SAE J1116 (limited to categories of (1) construction, and (2) general purpose industrial).

CRITERIA FOR BACKUP ALARM DEVICES

1971-10-01
HISTORICAL
J994A_197110
The job requirements, along with local, state, or national codes, should dictate whether a backup alarm device shall be used on construction and mobile outdoor industrial machinery. In the cases of those machines which do not distinguish in direction of working travel and where the machine is equipped so the operator can face the direction of travel each time (for example, certain compactors, loaders, and dozers), the use of a backup alarm device may not be applicable.

Discriminating Back-Up Alarm System Standard

1999-06-01
CURRENT
J1741_199906
This SAE Standard describes methods for evaluating the performance of the systems detection device, the minimum detection areas behind the machine, the visual and audible information presented to the operator and ground personnel, and the systems fault detection requirements. Also included are operator system function tests and maintenance procedures.

Lighting and Marking of Construction, Earthmoving Machinery

2012-10-09
HISTORICAL
J1029_201210
This SAE Standard establishes minimum requirements for lighting and marking earthmoving construction machinery as defined in SAE J1116, 1.1 Self-Propelled Construction Machines—Earthmoving (excluding excavators). (Construction machinery is normally operated off-highway, and therefore this SAE document is not intended to be used as a basis for regulations by those having authority over on-highway motor vehicles.)

MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING A REPRESENTATIVE SOUND LEVEL AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE BOUNDARY LOCATION

1978-04-01
HISTORICAL
J1075_197804
This SAE Recommended Practice sets forth procedures and instrumentation to be used for determining a representative sound level during a representative time period at selected measurement locations on a construction site boundary. It concerns the community adjacent to the construction site, and it is not intended for use in determining occupational hearing damage risk.
Standard

SOUND MEASUREMENT - CONSTRUCTION SITE

1987-03-01
HISTORICAL
J1075_198703
This SAE Standard sets forth measurement procedures and instrumentation to be used for determining a "representative" sound level during a representative time period at selected measurement locations on a construction site boundary. The standard is not intended for use in determining occupational hearing damage risk. Determination of a representative time period is left to the judgment of the user.

Sound Measurement - Off-Road Work Machines - Exterior

2013-06-20
CURRENT
J88_201306
This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring the exterior sound pressure levels for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in sections 1, 3, 5 and 6 of SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. The sound levels obtained by using the test procedures set forth in this document are repeatable and are representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to the variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for construction site boundary noise evaluations.

Sound Measurement—Off-Road Work Machines—Operator—Singular Type

2009-01-13
HISTORICAL
J919_200901
This SAE Standard sets forth the instrumentation and procedure to be used in measuring sound pressure levels at the operator position for self-propelled off-road work machines as defined in SAE J1116. This document does not address the operation of safety devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories. This SAE document is applicable to machines that have operator stations where the operator can either stand or sit and will be either transported by, or walk with the machine during its operation. The sound levels obtained using this procedure are repeatable and representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions. Due to variability of field operating conditions, this data is not intended to be used for operator noise exposure evaluations.
