CLASSIFICATION OF AGRICULTURAL WHEELED TRACTORS FOR VIBRATION TESTS OF OPERATOR SEATS

1986-01-01
HISTORICAL
J1386_198601
This Recommended Practice defines classes of tractors having similar characteristics which affect the vibration transmitted to the operator through the operator seat. This recommended practice establishes input data parameters for conducting operator seat vibration tests for various classifications for agricultural wheeled tractors. The classification is intended to aid in the selection of a seat for a specific tractor model and to reduce the amount of testing necessary to determine compliance with applicable standards and/or recommendations. Classification is based on basic configuration and total mass. Instrumentation and measurement procedures are specified in SAE J1013 JAN80. Test procedures are defined in SAE J1384. This document is in compliance with DIS 5007 adopted by ISO/TC23/SC3 October 1984 in Madrid, Spain.

This SAE Recommended Practice pertains to operator seats for the earthmoving category of off-road self-propelled work machines as defined in SAE J1116 JUN81. This recommended practice defines classes of earthmoving machines having similar characteristics which affect the vibration transmitted to the operator through the operator seat. This recommended practice establishes input data parameters for conducting operator seat vibration tests for the various classes. The purpose is to aid in the selection of an operator seat for a specific machine model and to reduce the amount of testing necessary to determine compliance with applicable standards and/or recommendations. Test procedures are specified in SAE J1384. Instrumentation and measurement procedures are specified in SAE J1013 JAN80.

DETERMINING OPERATOR SEAT LOCATION ON OFF-ROAD WORK MACHINES

1980-01-01
HISTORICAL
J1163_198001
This recommended practice establishes procedures for determining seat location relative to basic datum points or planes on agricultural and construction machines. Alternate procedures are specified including an H-Point procedure to evaluate compliance with standards or regulations related to the H-Point, determined with the device specified in SAE J826b and a Seat Index Point (SIP) procedure to provide for use of a simplified device. When a specific procedure is not designated, the H-Point and SIP are equivalent and can be used interchangeably within normal measurement tolerances.

DEVELOPMENT OF A FREQUENCY WEIGHTED PORTABLE RIDE METER

1978-06-01
HISTORICAL
J1225_197806
The task force was assigned responsibility for the following activities: 1 Formulate a recommendation for an acceptable ride meter including features, functional performance, and design specifications. 2 Conduct a survey to determine if there is a commercially available ride meter conforming to the recommendation. 3 If an acceptable ride meter is not commercially available, work with an electronics supplier to initiate a design and build a working prototype of a meter conforming to the recommendation.

DYNAMIC DURABILITY TESTING OF SEAT CUSHIONS FOR OFF-ROAD WORK MACHINES

1986-01-01
HISTORICAL
J1454_198601
The Recommended Practice describes a laboratory test procedure for comparatively evaluating the durability and fatigue life qualities of a complete seat cushion. This is accomplished by submitting the seating surface of the cushion to repetitive compressive and rotational loading with a simulated human buttocks.

Development of a Frequency Weighted Portable Ride Meter

1987-01-30
CURRENT
J1225_198701
The purpose of this report is to record the activities and recommendations of the Ride Meter Task Force assigned by the chairman of the SAE Joint Seating Subcommittee to determine availability of instrumentation to measure operator ride on mobile equipment. The desired characteristics of the meter included relatively low cost, easy to operate, highly portable, and sufficiently rugged to withstand the vibration levels encountered on agricultural or construction machines. It is recognized that a ride meter type instrument with a single numerical output provides only approximate indication of ride vibration quality, but is useful for general field evaluation or overall ride comparisons. A narrow band analysis of the vibration frequency spectrum is recommended for more accurate and complete results.

MEASUREMENT OF WHOLE BODY VIBRATION OF THE SEATED OPERATOR OF OFF-HIGHWAY WORK MACHINES

1980-01-01
HISTORICAL
J1013_198001
In the main body of this recommendation, conditions are defined for measuring and recording whole body vibration of the seated operator of off-highway self-propelled work machines. The specification of instruments, analytic methods, and description of site and operating conditions allows the measurements to be made and reported with an acceptable precision. The procedure includes means of weighting the vibration level at different frequencies as specified in ISO 2631 (Ref. 1). A standard format for reporting spectral data is recommended. The definitions, instruments, and analytic methods also apply to simulated tests for operator vibration as performed in laboratories. This procedure is a measuring method only and is not intended for the evaluation or selection of seating systems.
