FITTING - O-RING FACE SEAL

1989-06-01
HISTORICAL
J1453_198906
This SAE standard covers material, dimensional, and performance requirements of steel O-ring face seal fittings for tubing and the O-ring face seal interface and nut portion of hose stem assemblies for nominal tube or hose diameters 6.35 mm (0.250 in) through 38.1 mm (1.500 in). These fittings are intended for general application and hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products, where elastomeric seals are acceptable to overcome leakage and variations in assembly procedures. These fittings are capable of providing leak proof full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating from 95 kPa (28 in Hg) vacuum to working pressures shown in Table 1 below. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, these values should not be construed as guaranteed minimums.

This SAE Standard covers specifications and performance requirements for 37° and 45° single and double flares for tube ends intended for use with SAE J512, SAE J513, SAE J514, and ISO 8434-2 connectors. The flares described in this document are intended for use with SAE metallic tube materials. Considerations such as the effects of wall thickness selection for specific working pressures, identifying appropriate length of thread engagements for specific applications with mating connectors and other associated criteria, shall be the responsibility of the user. For applicable nominal reference working pressures for hydraulic tubing, see SAE J1065 and ISO 10763.

HYDRAULIC TUBE FITTINGS

HISTORICAL
J514H_197504
This standard covers complete general and dimensional specifications for 37 deg flared and flareless types of hydraulic tube fittings and the O-ring bosses and related components with which they assemble. These fittings are intended for general application in hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. The 37 deg flared tube fittings shall be as shown in Figs. 5-18 and Tables 3-6. Since the basic design of these fittings is derived from Air Force and Navy Standards for 37 deg flared fittings which meet a performance specification, any future changes should not be detrimental to the design or performance. Dimensions for double and single 37 deg flares on tubing to be used with these fittings are given in Fig. 3 and Table 2 of SAE J533. The flareless tube fittings shall be as shown in Figs. 19-32 and Tables 7-10. The basic design of these fittings is derived from existing military standards.

This standard covers complete general and dimensional specifications for 37 deg flared and flareless types of hydraulic tube fittings and the O-ring bosses and related components with which they assemble. Also included are pipe fittings for use in conjunction with these tube fittings. These fittings are intended for general application in hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These fittings are capable of providing leak proof full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating at working pressures as specified in SAE J1065 “Pressure Ratings for Hydraulic Tubing and Fittings”. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, the values shown in J1065 should not be construed as a guaranteed minimum. For any severe applications it is recommended sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and fitting manufacturer to assure performance levels will be safe and satisfactory.
