Rationale: Current documents classifying elastomers (SAE J200) require laboratory round robins to generate data for table creation or modification. Many physical property test methods have since been introduced which can be used to indicate a materials capability to function in an environment, but are difficult to add to SAE J200 suffix tables due to several factors including the extensive round robin requirement. This document does not require table generation through material, but does allow the manufacturer and user to classify a material formulation based on their testing of that formulation and the requirements of the environment it must withstand.
