Digital Twin Based Multi-Vehicle Cooperative Warning System on Mountain Roads

2024-04-09
2024-01-1999
Compared with urban areas, the road surface in mountainous areas generally has a larger slope, larger curvature and narrower width, and the vehicle may roll over and other dangers on such a road. In the case of limited driver information, if the two cars on the mountain road approach fast, it is very likely to occur road blockage or even collision. Multi-vehicle cooperative control technology can integrate the driving data of nearby vehicles, expand the perception range of vehicles, assist driving through multi-objective optimization algorithm, and improve the driving safety and traffic system reliability. Most existing studies on cooperative control of multiple vehicles is mainly focused on urban areas with stable environment, while ignoring complex conditions in mountainous areas and the influence of driver status. In this study, a digital twin based multi-vehicle cooperative warning system was proposed to improve the safety of multiple vehicles on mountain roads.

2023-01-0058
Preventing skidding is essential for studying the safety of driving in curves. However, the adhesion of the vehicle during the driving process on the wet and slippery road will be significantly reduced, resulting in lateral slippage due to the low adhesion coefficient of the road surface, the speed exceeding the turning critical, and the turning radius being too small when passing through the corner. Therefore, to reduce the incidence of traffic accidents of passenger cars driving in curves on rainy and snowy days and achieve the purpose of planning safe driving speed, this paper proposes a curve active safety system based on a deep learning algorithm and vehicle dynamics model. First,we a convolutional neural network (CNN) model is constructed to extract and judge the characteristics of snow and ice adhesion on roads.

2022-01-5074
Dangerous driving behavior will cause serious traffic accidents, which will not only threaten life and property but also cause traffic congestion and reduce road capacity. Speed detection is an important detection method to identify whether a driver is driving dangerously. Traditional speed detection methods need additional sensors, which will increase the cost of speed measurement. This paper proposes a vehicle speed estimation algorithm based on the imaginary projection plane (IPP). The IPP will be established according to the height, field angle, and vertical tilt angle of the camera and will be used to establish the mapping relationship between the world coordinates and image coordinates of the vehicle. By combining YOLOv4 and DeepSORT, the vehicle license plate is detected and tracked, and the center point of the vehicle license plate is taken as the feature point of vehicle speed estimation. The vehicle speed is estimated according to the IPP.

2022-03-29
2022-01-0909
With the rapid development of the logistics and transportation industry, heavy-duty trucks play an increasingly important role in social life. However, due to the characteristics of large cargo loads, high center of mass and relatively narrow wheelbase, the driving stability of heavy trucks are poor, and it is easy to cause rollover accidents under high-speed driving conditions, large angle steering and emergency obstacle avoidance. To improve the roll stability of heavy trucks, it is necessary to design an active anti-rollover control system, through the analysis of the yaw rate and the load transfer rate of the vehicle, driving states can be estimated during the driving process. Under the intervention of the control system, the lateral transfer rate of heavy trucks can be reduced to correct the driving posture of the vehicle body and reduce the possibility of rollover accidents.

2021-01-5094
Recreational vehicles have a lot of potential consumers in China, especially the type C recreational vehicle is popular among consumers due to its advantages, prompting an increase in the production and sales volumes. The type C vehicle usually has a higher air drag than the common commercial vehicles due to its unique appearance. It can be reduced by optimizing the structural parameters, thus the energy consumed by the vehicle can be decreased. The external flow field of a recreational vehicle is analyzed by establishing its computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model. The characteristic of the RV’s external flow field is identified based on the simulation result. The approximation models of the vehicle roof parameters and air drag and vehicle volume are established by the response surface method (RSM). The vehicle roof parameters are optimized by multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MO-PSO).

Structural Design and Analysis of Battery Protection Device for Electric Truck

2021-04-06
2021-01-0795
The development of electrification is widely considered to be the key to the transportation industry. In recent years, the number of electric trucks on the road is increasing year by year, so the safety of electric trucks is of great importance. At present, the batteries of electric trucks are mostly arranged on the two sides of the trucks. The protective devices are only the guardrails fixed on the vehicle body, so the protective effect is poor. In view of this situation, this paper designed a battery protection device for electric truck. When the truck is hit in a side collision, the transverse guardrail first generates plastic deformation and absorbs kinetic energy. At this time, the collision force is transmitted to the energy-absorbing box along the moving direction of the side collision vehicle, and the energy-absorbing box is contracted to produce a buffer effect.

2021-01-0859
Road traffic accidents resulting from alcohol-impaired driving are increasing globally despite several measures, currently in place, to curb the trend. For this reason, recent research aims at integrating alcohol early-detection systems and driving simulator experiments to identify intoxicated drivers. However, driving simulator experiments on drunk driving have focused mostly on male participants than female drivers whose characteristics have scarcely been explored. Hence in this paper, vehicle dynamic control inputs on steering, braking, and acceleration performance of 75 licensed female drivers with an upshot of alcohol at four different blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels (0%, 0.03%, 0.05%, and 0.08%) were investigated. The participants completed simulated driving in a fixed-based simulator experiment coupled with real-time ecological scenarios to extract discrete responses.

2021-01-0978
The tank truck has a wide range of application. When the liquid in the tank is not fully loaded, the lateral movement of the liquid in the tank will shift the center of gravity of the tank truck and make the vehicle less safe. It is easy to roll over when the tank truck is turning. This study combines the vehicle dynamic characteristics and geographic information, which gives the driver safe speed and safe braking distance tips before turning, to reduce the traffic accidents caused by driver's misjudgment. The dynamic model of the tank truck is established, through collecting the real-time information of the vehicle, the vehicle load and braking torque are calculated by the relevant dynamic model. The system needs to measure the deviation of the center of gravity in the tank truck movement process, and the deviation of the center of gravity has a great influence on the safety speed.

2021-01-0335
The automatic emergency braking (AEB) system is an important part of automobile active safety, which can effectively reduce rear-end collision accidents and protect drivers' safety through active braking. AEB system has been included in many countries' new car assessment programme as the test content of active safety. In view of obviously deficiencies of the existing AEB control algorithm in avoiding longitudinal collision at high speed, it is proposed to an optimized model of the minimum safe distance for rear-end collision prevention on high-speed road in order to improve the accuracy of AEB system. Considering the influence of road adhesion coefficient and human comfort on the maximum braking deceleration, it is established to a more accurate and reasonable AEB system to avoid collision for expressway. 2020-01-0626
With the rapidly developing automotive industry and stricter environmental protection laws and regulations, lightweight materials, advanced manufacturing processes and structural optimization methods are widely used in body design. Therefore, in order to evaluate and improve the pedestrian protection during a collision, this paper presents an impact simulation modeling and structural optimization method for a sport utility vehicle engine hood made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Head injury criterion (HIC) was used to evaluate the performance of the hood in this regard. The inner panel and the outer panel of CFRP hood were discretized by shell elements in LS_DYNA. The Mat54-55 card was used to define the mechanical properties of the CFRP hood. In order to reduce the computational costs, just the parts contacted with the hood were modeled. The simulations were done in the prescribed 30 impact points.

Bi-Directional Evolutionary Structural Optimization for Crashworthiness Structures

2020-04-14
2020-01-0630
Gradient based topology optimization method is difficult used to optimization of crashworthiness structures due to the expensive computational cost of sensitivity analysis and complex nonlinear behaviors (geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity and contact nonlinearity) of structures during a collision. Equivalent static loads (ESLs) method is one of the methods for nonlinear dynamic response optimization. However, this method ignores the material nonlinearity. Thus this paper proposes an improved topology optimization method for crashworthiness structure based on a modified ESLs method. A new calculation of ESLs considering material nonlinearity is proposed. The improved ESLs method is employed to transform the nonlinear dynamic response optimization into a nonlinear static response optimization with multiple load cases. Each element in the design domain is assigned with a design variable.

With the increase of car ownership and the complex and crowded parking environment, it is difficult for drivers to complete the parking operation quickly and accurately, which may cause traffic accidents such as vehicle collisions and road jams because of poor parking skills. The emergence of an automatic parking system can help drivers park safely and reduce the occurrence of safety accidents. In this paper, the neural network identifier on the control method of an adaptive integral derivative of a neural network is proposed for an automatic parallel parking system with front-wheel steering is studied by using MATLAB/Simulink environment, and the simulation is carried out. Firstly, according to vehicle parameters and obstacle avoidance constraints, the minimum parking space, and parking starting position are calculated. Meanwhile, the path planning of parallel parking spaces is carried out by quintic polynomial.

2020-04-14
2020-01-1088
The ride performance and stability of the vehicle will decrease while the vehicle passing a deceleration bump with relatively high speed. If the speed is too low, the road efficiency and ride comfort will be affected. It is essential to identify the proper speed taking into account all the factors. In this paper, the dynamic model of the vehicle passing through the deceleration bump is established. Three kinds of indicators vibration weighted acceleration RMS, maximum vertical vibration acceleration and wheel load impact coefficient, are used to comprehensively evaluate the ride comfort and safety. The highway model, vehicle model, and common trapezoidal cross-sections bump models are set up in Carsim. Parameters such as vertical acceleration and tire force at different vehicle speeds are obtained. Then use the spline interpolation method to fit the data, and comprehensively consider the three indicators to get the best speed.

2017-03-28
2017-01-0091
The mountainous roads are rugged and complex, so that the driver can not make accurate judgments on dangerous road conditions. In addition, most heavy vehicles have characteristics of large weight and high center of gravity. The two factors above have caused most of the car accidents in mountain areas. A research shows that 90% of car accidents can be avoided if drivers can respond within 2-3 seconds before the accidents happen. This paper proposes a speed warning scheme for heavy-duty vehicle over the horizon in mountainous area, which can give the drivers enough time to respond to the danger. In the early warning aspect, this system combines the front road information, the vehicle characteristics and real-time information obtained from the vehicle, calculates and forecasts the danger that may happen over the horizon ahead of time, and prompts the driver to control the vehicle speed.

2017-01-9275
In vehicles with urea-SCR system, normal operation of the urea-SCR system and engine will be influenced if there are deposits appearing on exhaust pipe wall. In this paper, a commercial vehicle is employed to study the influence factors of deposits through the vehicle road test. The results show that, urea injection rate, temperature and flow field have impacts on the formation of deposits. When decreasing the urea injection rate of calibration status by 20%, the deposit yield would reduce by 32%. If the ambient temperature decreased from 36 °C to 26 °C, the deposit yield would increase by 95%. After optimizing the exhaust pipe downstream of the urea injector by removing the step surface, only a few flow marks of urea droplets are observed on the pipe wall, and no lumps of deposits existing.

2015-01-9147
In the field of Electric Vehicle (EV), what the driver is most concerned with is that whether the value of the battery's capacity is less than the failure threshold because of the degradation. And the failure threshold means instability of the battery, which is of great danger for drives and passengers. So the capacity is an important indicator to monitor the state of health (SOH) of the battery. In laboratory environment, standard performance tests can be carried out to collect a number of related data, which are available for regression prediction in practical application, such as the on-board battery pack. Firstly, we make use of the NASA battery data set to form the observed data sequence for regression prediction. And a practical method is proposed to determine the minimum embedding dimension and get the recurrence formula, with which a capacity model is built.
