2024-01-2871
Roundabouts are one of the most complex traffic environments in urban roads, and a key challenge for intelligent driving decision-making. Deep reinforcement learning, as an emerging solution for intelligent driving decisions, has the advantage of avoiding complex algorithm design and sustainable iteration. For the decision difficulty in roundabout scenarios, this paper proposes an artificial potential field based Soft Actor-Critic (APF-SAC) algorithm. Firstly, based on the Carla simulator and Gym framework, a reinforcement learning simulation system for roundabout driving is built. Secondly, to reduce reinforcement learning exploration difficulty, global path planning and path smoothing algorithms are designed to generate and optimize the path to guide the agent.

Currently, the rapid expansion of the global road transport industry and the imperative to reduce carbon emissions are propelling the advancement of electrified highways (EH). In order to conduct a comprehensive economic analysis of EH, it is crucial to develop a detailed /8.and comprehensive economic model that takes into account various transportation modes and factors that influence the economy. However, the existing economic models for EH lack comprehensiveness in terms of considering different transportation modes and economic factors. This study aims to fill this gap by designing an economic model for an EH-based Online DC-driven system (ODS) for long distance heavy-duty transport vehicle incorporating multi-factor sensitivities. Firstly, the performance parameters of the key components of the system are calculated using vehicle dynamics equations which involves selecting and matching the relevant components and determining the fundamental cost of vehicle transformation.

Research on Lane-Changing Trajectory Planning for Autonomous Driving Considering Longitudinal Interaction

2024-04-09
2024-01-2557
Autonomous driving in real-world urban traffic must cope with dynamic environments. This presents a challenging decision-making problem, e.g. deciding when to perform an overtaking maneuver or how to safely merge into traffic. The traditional autonomous driving algorithm framework decouples prediction and decision-making, which means that the decision-making and planning tasks will be carried out after the prediction task is over. The disadvantage of this approach is that it does not consider the possible impact of ego vehicle decisions on the future states of other agents. In this article, a decision-making and planning method which considers longitudinal interaction is represented. The method’s architecture is mainly composed of the following parts: trajectory sampling, forward simulation, trajectory scoring and trajectory selection. For trajectory sampling, a lattice planner is used to sample three-dimensionally in both the time horizon and the space horizon.

With the rapid development of intelligent driving technology, there has been a growing interest in the driving comfort of automated vehicles. As vehicles become more automated, the role of the driver shifts from actively engaging in driving tasks to that of a passenger. Consequently, the study of the passenger experience in automated driving vehicles has emerged as a significant research area. In order to examine the impact of automatic driving on passengers' riding experience in vehicle platooning scenarios, this study conducted real vehicle experiments involving six participants. The study assessed the subjective perception scores, eye movement, and electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of passengers seated in the front passenger seat under various vehicle speeds, distances, and driving modes. The results of the statistical analysis indicate that vehicle speed has the most substantial influence on passenger perception.

Design of a Test Geometry to Characterize Sheared Edge Fracture in a Uniaxial Bending Mode

2023-04-11
2023-01-0730
The characterization of sheet metals under in-plane uniaxial bending is challenging due to the aspect ratios involved that can cause buckling. Anti-buckling plates can be employed but require compensation for contact pressure and friction effects. Recently, a novel in-plane bending fixture was developed to allow for unconstrained sample rotation that does not require an anti-buckling device. The objective of the present study is to design the sample geometry for sheared edge fracture characterization under in-plane bending along with a methodology to resolve the strains exactly at the edge. A series of virtual experiments were conducted for a 1.0 mm thick model material with different hardening rates to identify the influence of gage section length, height, and the radius of the transition region on the bend ratio and potential for buckling. Two specimen geometries are proposed with one suited for constitutive characterization and the other for sheared edge fracture.

Evolution and Redistribution of Residual Stress in Welded Plates During Fatigue Loading

2022-03-29
2022-01-0257
The presence of residual stresses affects the fatigue response of welded components. In the present study of thick welded cantilever specimens, residual stresses were measured in two A36 steel samples, one in the as-welded condition, and one subjected to a short history of bending loads where substantial local plasticity is expected at the fatigue hot-spot weld toe. Extensive X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements describe the residual stress state in a large region above the weld toe both in an untested as-welded sample and in a sample subjected to a short load history that generated an estimated 0.01 strain amplitude at the stress concentration zone at the weld toe. The results show that such a test will significantly alter the welding-induced residual stresses. Fatigue life prediction methods need to be aware that such alterations are possible and incorporate the effects of such cyclic stress relaxation in life computations.

The Missing Link: Developing a Safety Case for Perception Components in Automated Driving

2022-03-29
2022-01-0818
Safety assurance is a central concern for the development and societal acceptance of automated driving (AD) systems. Perception is a key aspect of AD that relies heavily on Machine Learning (ML). Despite the known challenges with the safety assurance of ML-based components, proposals have recently emerged for unit-level safety cases addressing these components. Unfortunately, AD safety cases express safety requirements at the system level and these efforts are missing the critical linking argument needed to integrate safety requirements at the system level with component performance requirements at the unit level. In this paper, we propose the Integration Safety Case for Perception (ISCaP), a generic template for such a linking safety argument specifically tailored for perception components. The template takes a deductive and formal approach to define strong traceability between levels.

2021-01-5088
To quickly and efficiently match the planetary gearset characteristic parameter of power-spilt hybrid vehicles so that their oil-saving potential can be maximized, this study proposes a parameter matching method that comprehensively considers energy management strategy and driving cycle based on an analysis of vehicle instantaneous efficiency. The method is used to match the planetary characteristic parameter of a power-split hybrid light truck. The relevant conclusions are compared with the influence of various planetary characteristic parameters on fuel consumption obtained through simulation under typical operating conditions. The simulation results show that the influence laws of the various planetary characteristic parameters on vehicle average efficiency are similar to those on fuel consumption. The proposed parameter-matching method based on vehicle efficiency analysis can effectively match the planetary characteristic parameter for power-split hybrid powertrains.

An Efficient Assistance Tool for Evaluating the Effect of Tire Characteristics on Vehicle Pull Problem

2020-04-14
2020-01-1237
The vehicle pull problem is very important to driving safety. Major factors that may cause the pull problem related to tire include variations of geometric dimension (e.g. RPK) and stiffness (e.g. cornering stiffness, aligning stiffness), plysteer and conicity. In previous research, the influencing mechanism of these factors was well studied. But in fact, vehicle pull problem caused by tire is probabilistic. When we assemble four tires onto the car, there could be 384 different assembly arrangements. If there are significant differences among these four tires, there will also be significant differences in the influence of different tire assembly schemes on vehicle pull, which has not been systematically discussed in previous studies. If we want to evaluate the pull performance of all these arrangements by vehicle test, it will be a time consuming process which will take almost 24 working days, along with a high test expense.

2020-01-0191
1 Crack initiation and propagation test data gathered during tests on Keyhole notched samples is used to evaluate a fatigue life prediction technique. Materials tested include a lower strength ManTen steel and a higher strength Boron steel, RQC-100, both tested with constant and variable amplitude histories. Initiation fatigue life is predicted using the usual method of plasticity correction at the notch followed by a Palmgren-Miner summation of damage with mean stress correction. The emphasis of the study is on simulating the crack propagation results. For that phase discretetize da/dN vs ΔK lines and thresholds for negative R ratios, are used specifically to help predict the propagation for one of the VA histories that had a significant negative mean. The open source crack propagation simulation program applies a material memory model to determine the crack advance on a reversal by reversal basis.

2019-01-0494
The wireless inter-vehicle communication provide a manner to achieve multi-vehicle cooperative driving, and the platoon of automotive vehicle can significantly improve traffic efficiency and ensure traffic safety. Previous researches mostly focus on the state of the proceeding vehicle, and transmit information from self to the succeeding vehicle. Nevertheless, this structure possesses high requirements for controller design and shows poor effect in system stability. In this paper, the state of vehicles is not only related to the information of neighbor vehicles, while V2V communication transmit information over a wide range of area. To begin with, the node dynamic model of vehicle is described by linear integrator with inertia delay and the space control strategy is proposed with different topological communication structures as BF, LBF, PBF, etc.

2018-09-10
2018-01-1701
In this paper, it was researched the degradation characteristics of catalytic performance of three kinds of DPFs (C1, C2 and C3, with precious metal concentrations being 15, 25 and 35 g/ft3 respectively) after diesel truck aging. It is found out that the crystallinity of three kinds of DPF samples (Used) in full vehicle aging was higher than that of fresh samples (Fresh) and aged samples (Aged) in the laboratory. Compared with Fresh samples, the concentration of Pt atom in precious metal on the surface of Aged and Used samples tends to decrease in most cases. Activities to CO and C3H8 of Aged and Used samples of three kinds of DPFs had all been degraded, and activity degradation showed a substantial correlation with concentration reduction rate of precious metal on the carrier surface. NO2 productivity of Used samples all rose. Crystallinity of DPF samples after full vehicle aging in Inlet, Middle and Outlet areas successively increased.

Research on Roll Vibration Characteristics of a Truck's Front Suspension

2015-04-14
2015-01-0635
For the roll vibration problem of a Truck, a 4-DOF roll vibration model of its front suspension system was built. According to dynamics theory, the complex modal vibration modes of the model were all obtained. At the same time, the frequency response functions of frame roll angle acceleration, the relative dynamic load of wheel and the suspension dynamic deflection were respectively presented. Then their characteristics were respectively researched. In the process of characteristic analysis, a new system parameter was proposed, which is the space ratio of the space between suspensions of left and right sides and the wheel track of the front axle (space ratio in short). At last, the influence of system parameters on the vibration transmission property was also reserached, which included the natural frequency of the frame, the damping ratio, the stiffness ratio, the mass ratio, the rotational inertia ratio and the space ratio.
