This document is based upon the SAE ARP5602 document, A Guideline for Aerospace Platform Fiber Optic Training and Awareness Education. ARINC Report 807: Fiber Optic Training Requirements is a subset of the SAE ARP5602 document designed to meet the requirements of the commercial air transport industry. Certification to the SAE ARP5602 document fulfills the requirements of ARINC Report 807. This document defines recommended general practices for training requirements of aerospace fiber optic systems. It is the intention of this document to outline proven training practices and general standards of workmanship for technicians engaged in aerospace fiber optic manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and repair for the air transport industry. It is also recommended that management and purchasing personnel receive fundamental training to familiarize themselves with the requirements of aerospace fiber optics.

There are many macro drivers that are creating opportunities for transportation electrification. They include the environment, dependence on foreign oil, national security, battery technology and government incentives to name a few. In this presentation we will present a COTS solution for an ARINC 653 IMA based system. It will cover IMA concepts from an OS point of view and show how a platform can be built for application development. It will also cover DO-297, and how that can isolate applications for certification and test purposes and allow for easy configuration of multiple applications between different development teams. “Spotlight on Design: Insight” features an in-depth look at the latest technology breakthroughs impacting mobility. Viewers are virtually taken to labs and research centers to learn how design engineers are enhancing product performance/reliability, reducing cost, improving quality, safety or environmental impact, and achieving regulatory compliance. The quality of fluids used in aviation, such as oil or fuel, is an extremely important safety issue. One way to reliably monitor fluids is through the use of special measurement sensors. In the episode “Fluid Measurements and Avionics” (9:13), an engineer at Meggitt demonstrates the capabilities of time-domain reflectometry sensors, explaining how they are assembled and used. The business case for monitoring oil and fuel degradation, and how to proactively take advantage of preventative maintenance is also explained.

With the increased demand for high volume, cost-effective, fiber-reinforced thermoplastic parts, the lack of high throughput systems has become more pronounced. Thermoforming as a method to generate complex shapes from a flat preform is dependable and fast. In order to use readily available, standard unidirectional impregnated thermoplastic tape in this process, a flat perform must be created prior to the thermoforming step. Formerly, creating the preform by hand layup was a time consuming and therefore costly, step. Fiberforge�?s patented RELAY� technology overcomes the challenges of handling thermoplastic prepreg tape and provides a solution through the automated creation of a flat preform, referred to as a Tailored Blank?. Producing a part for thermoforming with accurate ply orientation and scrap minimization is now as simple as loading a material spool followed by a pressing a start button. The foundation of many production aircraft assembly facilities is a more dynamic and unpredictable quantity than we would sometimes care to admit. Any tooling structures constructed on these floors, no matter how thoroughly analyzed or well understood, are at the mercy of settling and shifting concrete, which can cause very lengthy and costly periodic re-certification and adjustment procedures. It is with this in mind, then, that we explore the design possibilities for one such structure to be built in Belfast, North Ireland for the assembly of the Shorts C-Series aircraft wings. We evaluate the peak floor pressure, weight, gravity deflection, drilling deflection, and thermal deflection of four promising structures and discover that carefully designed pivot points and tension members can offer significant benefits in some areas.
