A Familiarization of Drivetrain Components

In this course, participants will be exposed to various methods that can be used to accomplish an efficient, robust & quiet running drivetrain. This course focuses on the terms, functions, nomenclature, operating characteristics and effect on vehicle performance for each of the drivetrain components. Participants will receive an introduction to the various components of the drivetrain, including the clutch or torque converter, manual or automatic transmission, driveshaft, axle, wheel ends, and brakes.

Tire and Wheel Safety Issues

One of the most important safety critical components on cars, trucks, and aircraft is the pneumatic tire. Vehicle tires primarily control stopping distances on wet and dry roads or runways and strongly influence over-steer/under-steer behavior in handling maneuvers of cars and trucks. The inflated tire-wheel assembly also acts as a pressure vessel that releases a large amount of energy when catastrophically deflated. The tire can also serve as a fulcrum, both directly and indirectly, in contributing to vehicle rollover. This course covers these facets of tire safety phenomena.

Powertrain Product Development for Electrified Vehicles

This course is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. The course materials are bilingual (English and Chinese). Transmission and driveline products for new energy vehicles are different in many aspects from their counterparts in traditional vehicles. This four-hour short course provides an introduction to contamination control principles in aircraft hydraulic systems. Topics covered include an introduction to the types of contamination in aircraft hydraulic systems, contaminant measurement, and reporting methods. The 2-day foundational-level Fundamentals of GD&T course teaches the terms, rules, symbols, and concepts of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard. The class offers an explanation of geometric symbols, including each symbol’s requirements, tolerance zones, and limitations. It compares GD&T to coordinate tolerancing, Rules #1 and #2; form and orientation controls; tolerance of position; runout and profile controls. Newly acquired learning is reinforced throughout the class with more than 100 practice problems using industrial drawings.
