According to NHTSA, there were 932 vehicle recalls in the United States in 2022, affecting approximately 31 million vehicles; 39 electric vehicle recalls affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles, and 56 ADAS recalls affecting more than 4.7 million vehicles. Furthermore, Warranty Week reports that Worldwide Auto Manufacturers allocated a total of $54.7 billion for future warranty repairs or $670 per vehicle sold in 2022. 2023 Consumer Report indicates that Electrical Vehicles have 79% more reliability issues than ICE vehicles.

Tire and Wheel Safety Issues

One of the most important safety critical components on cars, trucks, and aircraft is the pneumatic tire. Vehicle tires primarily control stopping distances on wet and dry roads or runways and strongly influence over-steer/under-steer behavior in handling maneuvers of cars and trucks. The inflated tire-wheel assembly also acts as a pressure vessel that releases a large amount of energy when catastrophically deflated. The tire can also serve as a fulcrum, both directly and indirectly, in contributing to vehicle rollover. This course covers these facets of tire safety phenomena.

This course is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. Driving simulator is a key component of automotive interactive design, which can provide objective data to support both the effectiveness of design and user experience. The first half of this course reviews where regulations are at the state and federal levels, what actions are currently under consideration, how current regulations will need to change to accommodate HAV’s, and how and when new regulations might be implemented. The second half covers both common law and strict liability and how it may apply to HAV’s.

This course identifies common validation practices and key bilateral agreements which facilitate acceptance of aviation products from one country to another.
