2020-01-1093
During the operation of the ball joint, its service life and transmission efficiency are affected by the internal friction. Taking the ball joint as the research object, based on fractal theory, the friction between the steel ball and the raceway inside the ball joint of an automotive drive shaft system is studied in this paper. During the analysis, the friction between the steel ball and the arc raceway is regarded as the friction between a sphere and an arc raceway surface. In order to describe the friction state more accurately, this paper proposes a correction coefficient to modify the distribution function of contact asperities in the plane, and obtains the distribution function of contact asperities between the sphere and the arc raceway surface. The correction coefficient is related to the load, the size parameters and the material parameters of the steel ball and the raceway.

2022-01-0307
Because the power unit of electric vehicle has large torque, the rubber mount of electric vehicle is fully compressed under the condition of full throttle acceleration. When designing the mount of electric vehicle, the dynamic-to-static stiffness ratio of mount under the case should be as low as possible to improve the vibration isolation rate of the mount. In this paper, a method for calculating the high frequency dynamic characteristics of rubber isolators under different preloads is presented. Firstly, the dynamic characteristics of rubber specimens under various shear pre-strains were tested. The test results show that the dynamic stiffness of specimen decreases at first and then increases with the increase of shear strain. The viscoelastic parameters of rubber in frequency domain under different pre-strain were identified according to the experimental data. Secondly, a finite element modeling method was proposed.

2021-01-0980
Roll stability is an important attribute which must be accounted for in heavy trucks. In order to analyze the anti-roll performance of the suspension in the early period of development, engineers will generally use Multi Body Dynamics (MBD) simulation software which can save time in the product development cycle. However, air suspension employs levelling valves to adjust the height by charging and discharging air springs. The air spring is typically modeled as a closed container in the simulation; the stiffness change of the air spring caused by the levelling valve is not considered. In this paper, an air suspension with levelling valves model integrated into the multi-body dynamic model of a 64 heavy truck is built with a co-simulation technique to investigate the influence of three types of levelling valves arrangement on the roll performance of the suspension under two typical conditions.

The thermal management system, which is used to improve driving safety and thermal comfort, is one of the most important systems in electric vehicles. In recent years, researchers have coupled the heat pump system and the battery cooling system to effectively improve the heating COP (Coefficient of Performance). Therefore an accurate dynamic model of thermal management system plays a key role in investigating system performance and optimal control strategies. In this paper, an electric vehicle thermal management system based on four-way valve heat pump system is designed. The moving boundary method is improved by considering the unsteady flow of the external fluid, and then a 13-order dynamic model of the thermal management system is established. Firstly, the control equations of evaporator, condenser and chiller are derived according to the principle of conservation, and then a dynamic model of thermal management system is established in Simulink.

2021-04-06
2021-01-0323
With the popularity of battery electric vehicles, the engine of the vehicle disappears, so the problem of road noise in cars is becoming more and more prominent. Road noise into the car can be divided into structure-borne noise and airborne noise, this paper only focuses on the airborne noise above 500Hz, completely ignoring the structure-borne noise. A transfer path analysis model with “Intermediate Response Points” is proposed to accurately represent the transfer path of each airborne noise through the setting of “Intermediate Points”. In the Vehicle Semi-Anechoic Room With 4×4 NVH Chassis Dyno, it is possible to create a working condition with only four tires running, so only the tire noise is considered in this paper. The frequency response function is tested in the Semi-Anechoic Chamber and the operating data is tested in the Vehicle Semi-Anechoic Room With 4×4 NVH Chassis Dyno.

A Control Strategy to Reduce Torque Oscillation of the Electric Power Steering System

2019-06-05
2019-01-1516
This paper proposes a new evaluation method of analyzing stability and design of a controller for an electric power steering (EPS) system. The main purpose of the EPS system’s control design is to ensure a comfortable driving experience of drivers, which mainly depends on the assist torque map. However, the high level of assist gain and its nonlinearity may cause oscillation, divergence and instability to the steering systems. Therefore, an EPS system needs to have an extra stability controller to eliminate the side effect of assist gain on system stability and attenuate the unpleasant vibration. In this paper, an accurate theoretical model is built and the method for evaluating system quality are suggested. The bench tests and vehicle experiments are carried out to verify the theoretical analysis.

2021-01-0664
Electric vehicle motors have the characteristics of fast torque response, large amplitude, and braking feedback torque. Therefore, the excitation of the electric vehicle powertrain has obvious transient impact characteristics, which put forward new requirements for the design of the mounting system. This article carried out the real vehicle test of rapid acceleration and rapid deceleration. A 12-degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamic model of the electric vehicle mounting system is established. The model is used to calculate the vibration acceleration of the active side and the passive side of the mount, and compared with the test value to verify the correctness of the simulation model. The impact degree, the maximum pitch angle of the powertrain, and the longitudinal acceleration of the powertrain centroid are used as evaluation indicators to analyze the transient response of the electric vehicle mounting system under rapid acceleration and rapid deceleration conditions.

For traditional rubber isolators, the dynamic stiffness increases significantly with the increase of excitation frequency and will have a peak value, which is called "internal resonance" phenomenon. This paper investigates a double-isolation rubber isolator, which consist of two rubber bushings and additional mass. It can be applied to improve the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) performance at high frequency of electric vehicles. The equivalent mechanical model and mathematical model of the double-isolation rubber isolator are established. Then, the finite element analysis (FEA) model is established, and we calculate the drive point dynamic stiffness and cross point dynamic stiffness of the inner bushing, outer bushing and the entire double-isolation rubber isolator.

As the power of electric vehicles (EVs), lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are subjected to a variety of mechanical loads during electrochemical operation. Under this operating environment, lithium-ion batteries are at risk of internal short circuit, thermal runaway and even fire, threatening the safety of electric vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical behaviors and failure mechanisms of the battery separator to improve the safety of lithium-ion batteries under mechanical loads. In this study, uniaxial tensile, through-thickness compression and biaxial punch tests were performed to characterize two types of separators, dry-processed polypropylene (PP) separators and wet-processed ceramic-coated separators, and to analyze and compare their mechanical properties and failure modes. The comprehensive mechanical tests show that the failure modes of the different separator types are different, with the more anisotropic separator having more complex failure modes.

2023-01-0607
In the manufacturing of battery boxes using the aluminum extruded process, poor consistency of products and a short life of the die for making aluminum structural sections are usually observed. A new method of producing battery boxes is proposed that combines steel stamped and aluminum extruded process. This paper first describes the design requirements for a battery box using a new process, and several important issues such as weld seam arrangement and error proofing in the manufacturing process are discussed. To address the issue of weld seam arrangement, the following three principles should be considered in the design: These principles include that the profile lap angle should be above 90°, three or more beams should not be lapped too closely together, and multiple brackets in close proximity should be designed as one unit.

2024-01-2351
An experiment is carried out to measure creep groan of a drum brake located in a trailer axle of a truck. The noise nearby the drum brake and accelerations on brake shoes, axle and trailer frame are collected to analyze the occurring conditions and characteristics of the creep groan. A multi-body dynamics model with 1/4 trailer chassis structures is established for analyzing brake component vibrations that generates the creep groan. In the model, the contact force between brake cam and brake shoes, the contact friction characteristics between brake linings and inner circular surface of brake drum, and the properties of chassis structure are included. Dynamic responses of brake shoes, axle and trailer frame during the braking process are estimated using the established model and the responses are compared with the measured results, which validate the model.
