Tire and Wheel Safety Issues

One of the most important safety critical components on cars, trucks, and aircraft is the pneumatic tire. Vehicle tires primarily control stopping distances on wet and dry roads or runways and strongly influence over-steer/under-steer behavior in handling maneuvers of cars and trucks. The inflated tire-wheel assembly also acts as a pressure vessel that releases a large amount of energy when catastrophically deflated. The tire can also serve as a fulcrum, both directly and indirectly, in contributing to vehicle rollover. This course covers these facets of tire safety phenomena.

Application Development of Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles Balancing Economic Objectives and Technical Requirements

This course is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. The course materials are bilingual (English and Chinese).   More and more stringent emission and fuel consumption regulations are pushing the automotive industry toward electrified powertrain and electrified vehicles. This is particularly evident in China, where there is an increased demand for  (EV) and (HEV). Infrastructure is being built across the country for convenient charging. It must now be determined how to meet the technical targets for EV/HEV regulations under economic constraints and how to best develop the major ePowertrain components (battery and motor).

Design and Evaluation of Automotive Static Perceptual Quality

This course is offered in China only and presented in Mandarin Chinese. Static perceptual quality is the term applied to the customer’s first impression of a car at the beginning of the buying process including how it looks, feels, and smells. This “first feeling” largely determines whether the customer continues through the purchase process. At present, OEMs have no systematic method for static perceptual quality in the whole vehicle design and development process, especially for the static perceptual quality review in the early stage of design and development before data freezing.
