Damping Force Optimal Control Strategy for Semi-Active Suspension System

Semi-active suspension system (SASS) could enhance the ride comfort of the vehicle across different operating conditions through adjusting damping characteristics. However, current SASS are often calibrated based on engineering experience when selecting parameters for its controller, which complicates the achievement of optimal performance and leads to a decline in ride comfort for the vehicle being controlled. Linear quadratic constrained optimal control is a crucial tool for enhancing the performance of semi-active suspensions. It considers various performance objectives, such as ride comfort, handling stability, and driving safety. This study presents a control strategy for determining optimal damping force in SASS to enhance driving comfort. First, we analyze the working principle of the SASS and construct a seven-degree-of-freedom model.

Commercial Vehicle's Longitudinal Deceleration Precise Control Considering Vehicle-Actuator Dynamic Characteristics

The installation of the Electronic Braking System (EBS) could effectively improve braking response speed, shorten braking distance, and ensure driving safety of commercial vehicles. However, during longitudinal deceleration control process, the commercial vehicles face not only challenges such as large inertia mass and random road gradient resistance of the vehicle layer, but also non-linear characteristics of the EBS actuator layer. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a commercial vehicle’s longitudinal deceleration precise control strategy considering vehicle-actuator dynamic characteristics. First, longitudinal dynamics of commercial vehicle is analyzed, and so is the EBS’ non-linear response hysteresis characteristics. Then, we design the dual layer deceleration control strategy. In vehicle layer, the recursive least squares with forgetting factor and Kalman filtering are comprehensively applied to dynamically estimate the vehicle mass and driving road slope.

Steering Angle Safety Control for Redundant Steering System Considering Motor Winding’s Various Faults

Reliable and safe Redundant Steering System (RSS) equipped with Dual-Winding Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (DW-PMSM) is considered an ideal actuator for future autonomous vehicle chassis. The built-in DW-PMSM of the RSS is required to identify various winding’s faults such as disconnection, open circuit, and grounding. When achieving redundant control through winding switching, it is necessary to suppress speed fluctuations during the process of winding switching to ensure angle control precision. In this paper, a steering angle safety control for RSS considering motor winding’s faults is proposed. First, we analyze working principle of RSS. Corresponding steering system model and fault model of DW-PMSM have been established. Next, we design the fault diagnosis and fault tolerance strategy of RSS.

Attitude Stability Control and Visualization Simulation for Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Fixed-Wing Aircraft

Direct debugging of a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fixed-wing aircraft’s control system can easily result in risk and personnel damage. It is effectively to employ simulation and numerical methods to validate control performance. In this paper, the attitude stabilization controller for VTOL fixed-wing aircraft is designed, and the controller performance is verified by MATLAB and visual simulation software, which significantly increases designed efficiency and safety of the controller. In detail, we first develop the VTOL fixed-wing aircraft’s six degrees of freedom kinematics and dynamics models using Simulink module, and the cascade PID control technique is applied to the VTOL aircraft’s attitude stabilization control. Then the visual simulation program records the flight data and displays the flight course and condition, which can validate the designed controller performance effectively.

This paper proposes an intelligent car testing and evaluation method based on digital twins, which is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning of autonomous driving systems. This method utilizes digital twin testing technology to effectively map and integrate real vehicles in real-world testing scenarios with virtual test environments. By enriching the testing and validation environment for smart cars, this approach improves testing efficiency and reduces costs. This study connects real test vehicles with simulation software testing toolchains to build a digital twin autonomous driving testing platform. This platform facilitates the validation, testing, and evaluation of functional algorithms, and case study is conducted through testing and validation of an emergency collision avoidance system. By rapidly applying digital twin testing and evaluation techniques for intelligent cars, this approach accelerates the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles.

Driving Style Identification Strategy Based on DS Evidence Theory

Driving assistance system is regarded as an effective method to improve driving safety and comfort and is widely used in automobiles. However, due to the different driving styles of different drivers, their acceptance and comfort of driving assistance systems are also different, which greatly affects the driving experience. The key to solving the problem is to let the system understand the driving style and achieve humanization or personalization. This paper focuses on clustering and identification of different driving styles. In this paper, based on the driver's real vehicle experiment, a driving data acquisition platform was built, meanwhile driving conditions were set and drivers were recruited to collect driving information. In order to facilitate the identification of driving style, the correlation analysis of driving features is conducted and the principal component analysis method is used to reduce the dimension of driving features.

With the increasing intelligence of human society, people's demand for human-computer interaction is also increasing. As an important communication medium for human to express information, gesture has always been an important topic in human-computer interaction. Using gesture recognition technology in the vehicle environment can reduce the operation difficulty during driving, reduce the possibility of driver distraction, and greatly improve driving safety and driving experience. Millimeter wave radar can effectively protect the privacy in the car from being leaked, and can still work normally in the dark interior environment. Moreover, with the development of millimeter wave technology from 24g to 60g and 77g, the improvement of its resolution further improves its ability to detect small displacement. Therefore, the gesture recognition technology using millimeter wave radar has been developed.

Lane Marking Detection for Highway Scenes based on Solid-state LiDARs

Lane marking detection plays a crucial role in Autonomous Driving Systems or Advanced Driving Assistance System. Vision based lane marking detection technology has been well discussed and put into practical application. LiDAR is more stable for challenging environment compared to cameras, and with the development of LiDAR technology, price and lifetime are no longer an issue. We propose a lane marking detection algorithm based on solid-state LiDARs. First a series of data pre-processing operations were done for the solid-state LiDARs with small field of view, and the needed ground points are extracted by the RANSAC method. Then, based on the OTSU method, we propose an approach for extracting lane marking points using intensity information.

A Joint Probabilistic Data Association (JPDA) multi-objective tracking improvement algorithm based on camera-radar fusion is proposed to address the problems of poor single-sensor tracking performance, unknown target detection probability, and missing valid targets in complex traffic scenarios. First, according to the correlation rule between the target track and the measurement, the correlation probability between the target and the measurement is obtained; then the measurement collection is divided into camera-radar measurement matched target, camera-only measurement matched target, radar-only measurement matched target, and no-match target; and the correlation probability is corrected with different confidence levels to avoid the use of unknown detection probability.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) includes three modes: cruise control, car following control, and autonomous emergency braking. Among them, the car following control mode is mainly used to manage the speed and vehicle spacing approach the preceding vehicle within the range of smooth acceleration changes. In addition, although the motion information signal of the preceding vehicle can be collected by auxiliary equipment, it is still a random variable and normally regarded as a disturbance to affect the performance of vehicle controller. Therefore, this paper proposed an ACC strategy considering the disturbance of the preceding vehicle and multi-objective optimization.

Accurate Pressure Control Based on Driver Braking Intention Identification for a Novel Integrated Braking System

With the development of intelligent and electric vehicles, higher requirements are put forward for the active braking and regenerative braking ability of the braking system. The traditional braking system equipped with vacuum booster has difficulty meeting the demand, therefore it has gradually been replaced by the integrated braking system. In this paper, a novel Integrated Braking System (IBS) is presented, which mainly contains a pedal feel simulator, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), a series of transmission mechanisms, and the hydraulic control unit. As an integrative system of mechanics-electronics-hydraulics, the IBS has complex nonlinear characteristics, which challenge the accurate pressure control. Furthermore, it is a completely decoupled braking system, the pedal force doesn’t participate in pressure-building, so it is necessary to precisely identify driver’s braking intention.

Simulation of Curved Road Collision Prevention Warning System of Automobile Based on V2X

The high popularity of automobiles has led to frequent collisions. According to the latest statistics of the United Nations, about 1.25 million people worldwide die from road traffic accidents each year. In order to improve the safety of vehicles in driving, the active safety system has become a research hotspot of various car companies and research institutions around the world. Among them, the more mature and popular active security system are Forward Collision Warning(FCW) and Autonomous Emergency Braking(AEB). However, the current active safety system is based on traditional sensors such as radar and camera. Therefore, the system itself has many limitations due to the shortage of traditional sensors. Compared to traditional sensors, Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technology has the advantages of richer vehicle parameter information, no perceived blind spots, dynamic prediction of dangerous vehicle status, and no occlusion restriction.

A Path Planning and Model Predictive Control for Automatic Parking System

With the increasing number of urban cars, parking has become the primary problem that people face in daily life. Therefore, many scholars have studied the automatic parking system. In the existing research, most of the path planning methods use the combined path of arc and straight line. In this method, the path curvature is not continuous, which indirectly leads to the low accuracy of path tracking. The parking path designed using the fifth-order polynomial is continuous, but its curvature is too large to meet the steering constraints in some cases. In this paper, a continuous-curvature parking path is proposed. The parking path tracker based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm is designed under the constraints of the control accuracy and vehicle steering. Firstly, in order to make the curvature of the parking path continuous, this paper superimposes the fifth-order polynomial with the sigmoid function, and the curve obtained has the continuous and relatively small curvature.

Research on Yaw Stability Control of Unmanned Vehicle Based on Integrated Electromechanical Brake Booster

The Electromechanical Brake Booster system (EMBB) integrates active braking and energy recovery and becomes a novel brake-by-wire solution that substitutes the vacuum booster. While the intelligent unmanned vehicle is in unstable state, the EMBB can improve the vehicle yaw stability more quickly and safely. In this paper, a new type of integrated EMBB has been designed, which mainly includes two parts: servo motor unit and hydraulic control unit. Aiming at the dynamic instability problem of intelligent unmanned vehicle, a three-layer vehicle yaw stability control structure including decision layer, distribution layer and execution layer is proposed based on integrated EMBB. Firstly, the decision layer calculates the ideal yaw rate and the side slip angle of the vehicle with the classic 2DOF vehicle dynamics model. The boundary of the stable region is determined by the phase plane method and the additional yaw moment is determined by the feedback PI control algorithm.

Research on Compensation Redundancy Control for Basic Force Boosting Failure of Electro-Booster Brake System

As a new brake-by-wire solution, the electro-booster (Ebooster) brake system can work with the electronic stability program (ESP) equipped in the real vehicle to realize various excellent functions such as basic force boosting (BFB), active braking and energy recovery, which is promoting the development of smart vehicles. Among them, the BFB is the function of Ebooster's servo force to assist the driver's brake pedal force establishing high-intensity braking pressure. After the BFB function failure of the Ebooster, it was not possible to provide sufficient brake pressure for the driver's normal braking, and eventually led to traffic accidents. In this paper, a compensation redundancy control strategy based on ESP is proposed for the BFB failure of the self-designed Ebooster.

The Electro-Mechanical Brake Booster system (EMBB) is a kind of novel braking booster system, which integrates active braking, regenerative braking, and other functions. It usually composes of a servo motor and the transmission mechanism. EMBB can greatly meet the development needs of vehicle intelligentization and electrification. During active braking, EMBB is required to respond quickly to the braking request and track the target pressure accurately. However, due to the highly nonlinearity of the hydraulic system and EMBB, traditional control algorithms especially for PID algorithm do not work well for pressure control. And a large amount of calibration work is required when applying PID algorithms to pressure control in engineering.

Tracking of Extended Objects with Multiple Three-Dimensional High-Resolution Automotive Millimeter Wave Radar

Estimating the motion state of peripheral targets is a very important part in the environment perception of intelligent vehicles. The accurate estimation of the motion state of the peripheral targets can provide more information for the intelligent vehicle planning module which means the intelligent vehicle is able to anticipate hazards ahead of time. To get the motion state of the target accurately, the target’s range, velocity, orientation angle and yaw rate need to be estimated. Three-dimensional high-resolution automotive millimeter wave radar can measure radial range, radial velocity, azimuth angle and elevation angle about multiple reflections of an extended target. Thus, the three-dimensional range information and three-dimensional velocity information can be obtained. With multiple three-dimensional high-resolution automotive millimeter-wave radar, it is possible to measure information in various directions of a target.

Electrification and intelligence are the important development directions of vehicle techniques. The Electro-Mechanical Brake Booster (Ebooster) as a brake booster which is powered by a motor, can be used to replace the traditional vacuum booster. Ebooster not only improves the intelligence level of vehicle braking and significantly improves the braking performance, but also adapts to the application in new energy vehicles and facilitates coordinated regenerative braking. However, Ebooster cannot complete pedal decoupling independently. It needs to cooperate with other components to realize pedal decoupling. In this paper, a pedal decoupling control algorithm for regenerative brake, which is based on the coordination control of Ebooster and ESP, is proposed. First, regenerative braking strategy is designed to distribute the hydraulic brake force and regenerative braking force.

Accurate Pressure Control Strategy of Electronic Stability Program Based on the Building Characteristics of High-Speed Switching Valve

The Electronic Stability Program (ESP), as a key actuator of traditional automobile braking system, plays an important role in the development of intelligent vehicles by accurately controlling the pressure of wheels. However, the ESP is a highly nonlinear controlled object due to the changing of the working temperature, humidity, and hydraulic load. In this paper, an accurate pressure control strategy of single wheel during active braking of ESP is proposed, which doesn’t rely on the specific parameters of the hydraulic system and ESP. First, the structure and working principle of ESP have been introduced. Then, we discuss the possibility of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control based on the mathematical model of the high-speed switching valve. Subsequently, the pressure building characteristics of the inlet and outlet valves are analyzed by the hardware in the Loop (HiL) experimental platform.

Targets Location for Automotive Radar Based on Compressed Sensing in Spatial Domain

Millimeter wave automotive radar is one of the most important sensors in the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and autonomous driving system, which detects the target vehicles around the ego vehicle via processing transmitted and echo signals. However, the sampling rate of classical radar signal processing methods based on Nyquist sampling theorem is too high and the resolution of range, velocity and azimuth can’t meet the requirement of highly autonomous driving, especially azimuth. In spatial domain, targets are sparse distribution in the detection range of automotive radar. To solve these problems, the algorithm for targets location based on compressed sensing for automotive radar is proposed in this paper. Besides, the feasibility of the algorithm is verified through the simulation experiments of traffic scene. The range-doppler-azimuth model can be used to estimate the distance, velocity and azimuth of the target accurately.
